  • I turned up to this place and they had no record of us staying at all. We ended up getting put in a substandard room that was not what we booked at all. The shower was that dirty that my girfriend felt that she had to wear socks to have a shower and then threw them out. Do not stay there!. 1

  • Please see the email I sent below to management at the Fat Camel to get an understanding of my experience. Hi XXX, Following what was the worst stay I have experienced in any backpackers throughout the world I thought I would break to light everything that occurred during our Auckland stay with Nomads. Arriving initially at Nomads Fat Camel at 4am on Saturday 17th September we were told that Nomads had made a double booking and that we would have to spend our second night in the other Nomads on Fort Street. Our other issues included: - We were not given a room key because we were told this was not working. - Being let into room 502-1 we found that the blinds covered only 50% of the room. - Our bed sheets were dirty and had not been changed, I was horrified to see sex stains on the sheet and pubic hairs in the bed. - The toilet in the dorm would not flush, and there was a build up of human waste left in the toilet. - We had been told we were allowed a late check out for moving after our first night (and late arrival), however at 10am a staff member opened our door saying that we had to get out (we then told him we had a late check-out). Having arrived at 4am and desperate for sleep we put up with what I would already describe as the worst backpackers, with the second night at the other Nomads somewhat better. The following week we arrived back at Nomads Fat Camel on Friday 23rd September for our stay until Monday 26th. We were again given room 502-1 thankfully with clean sheets, while I used newspaper to double as curtains to make up for the gaps in the blind. On Sunday 25th at approximately 1pm we encountered our first issue as a German man tried to enter our room. He then disappeared and a Samoan girl who works at Nomads then entered our room. I told her that my last name was XXX and said that we were booked until Monday. She then left returning a half hour later to ask us if we were booked in this room. I once more told her we were booked until Monday and she left again. Shortly after I walked into the office and had to AGAIN explain our situation. Returning to our room I found the room key had been made invalid. I then had to go to reception once more at which I had to wait 10 minutes for a staff member to validate our room key. This resulted in missing the start for the Rugby World Cup game I was attending which I was bitterly disappointed about. Returning after the game we went to our room and found a note that had been left to a “Walley” saying that they should have checked out of our room. Thinking that the Nomads staff could not have been so incompetent to have continued to make mistakes we went into the room and went to sleep. At approximately 12am another man tried to enter our room. This then followed by ANOTHER Nomads staff member who asked if we were meant to be in the room and asked for our details. AGAIN I said my surname was XXX and booked until Monday. At 1am the staff member returned and asked me if I was meant to be in the room – waking me up and my fiancée up once more. He then told me that I needed to go downstairs at 1AM! to see if I should be booked in the room. I was hugely irate, this staff member was telling me to be quiet because other people were sleeping (what the hell was I trying to do!). Myself and another Australian then went downstairs as your incompetent staff member then tried to work out where the error was while the man and the family who he had assigned our room to had to wait on the sofa directly outside my room. We then had to waste 15 minutes talking to your staff member as he, then four other of your staff tried to rectify the situation. When one of your staff members said I could return to my room, I left hugely disgusted and irate – with a complete inability to sleep because I was so angry at your staff member – who was impolite, intimidating and aggressive. When I demanded he call his manager to assist him he would not do anything to help. As you can see the above is not a series of errors, it is a complete stuff up and consequently I will be recommending to as many people as possible to avoid staying with your group. As a New Zealander living in Australia who had come over for the World Cup I was absolutely disgusted that an organisation could behave in such a completely unprofessional manner. 1

  • Pretty average, beds were broken and room was hot with no ventilation. I know its a backpackers and you shouldn't expect that much but the price wasn't that cheap and i don't think i would stay there again. also had problems when i tried to let them know we would be late checking in they tried to tell me we had no room booked even though it was paid for and i had a receipt. 1

  • CRAP!!!!! Didn't even make it in the room, Booked over the net way in advance drove all the way from Hastings when we arrived we were told you had to have a passport to stay there bit crap considering it was never mentioned once on their web page or while talking to staff when we needed directions. So basically even after booking driving all the way we were left in the middle of Auckland city at night with no where to stay, Would I recommend HELL NO!!!!! 1
