Great kiwiana Christchurch B&B, New Zealand..... Peaceful, attractive, convenient and friendly.....
Designer Cottage was a sailors' retreat in the 70s and is located in peaceful surroundings just off Colombo Street near the shops and opposite Sydenham Park. The walk to the city centre from the cottage will give you the chance to admire many listed heritage buildings on Colombo Street.
Your friendly host, Chet, has an honours degree in Landscape Architecture and is passionate about traditional buildings and his landscaping ideas. Designer Cottage is one of his finest collections of the charms of yesterday and all guests are welcome to view the ‘Designer Village' and hear his stories about the cottage.

A rather impersonal experience. Bed and room were fine, but very small toilet/shower room off the kitchen was inadequate for number of guests and a mission to get to when people eating at the table. Eating breakfast amid the debris of others and bathroom smells was not ideal. No information available about off street parking or internet. Overall barely satisfactory. Dear Annette Inglis, We always recommend guests book an ensuite room for their own privacy. Personally I was surprised when I saw you had booked the cheaper share bathroom option. Over the last 10 years we have had many guests return many times and some have gone to become good friends. We try to offer a balance between a homely stay, good value, and down to earth casual experience. From our own travel experience we have recognised the B&B experience is not suitable for all travelers. Best WishesDesigner Cottage

Difficult to go into detail. We needed a room for the night before flying to Sydney. The room was fine. The kitchen downstairs was not needed; the shower and toilet were fine. The chap who took us in and showed us our room was also fine.

Cozy,quiet place in downtown. A plenty of fresh fruits in every morning. Manager is not always in house,so you had better to have his mobile number.

Chet, the owner, was friendly and informative. The cottage was musty/moldy and in great need of renovation, with rotting floors. Can't speak to the other rooms in a different building.

Staying at designer cottage with sympathetic host Chet was a warm welcome to Christchurch after arriving at the airport. Service was excellent as well as personal, price/quality ratio very good, recommendable to all travellers that prefer the more intimate atmosphere of a B&B over more impersonal hotel atmosphere.
