    They upgraded us to a nicer room, and I was very impressed, I thought it was very modern, new, clean and well designed - from the large screen tv wall-mounted at just the right height on the end of the bed, to the tasteful colour scheme and artwork on the walls. And best of all I thought it was extremely good value for money. 5

    Astray was a convenient low-cost crash-pad for my short stay. I arrived late (10pm) and left at 6am - however the single room was perfect for my purposes. My room was tiny however provided a quiet, clean, comfortable (and budget-friendly) spot to rest before the next morning's half-marathon. Would stay again under similar circumstances. 4

    Good accomodation. Standard. Two things - bed a bit hard, but then you can't please everyone. Could ditch the wobbly table and chairs and put in a little bench to boil the jug on. Would be an improvement. Very nice people. 4

    I had to cancel my booking late at night because the road to Rotorua was too stormy that day. When I went to my phone to call, I already had a voicemail on my phone from Astray letting me know my room number and where to get our room key. Thanks Astray for being so on top of things. 5

    Contacted very late notice and owners were willing to accommodate our 3am arrival. Rooms are spotless, linen provided, only downside is slightly small but dont need alot of room to crash the night. 4

    Stayed 4 nights. 4 person bunk room was comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well equipped and tidy but there was no lounge seating. A couple of couches would have been nice. 4

    Bedroom excellent- clean and private, more spacious than I was expecting. Cooking facilities well-kept, nice private shower rooms. Very helpful and friendly staff. Only complaint was walls were paper thin and taps were right outside which sounded like pneumatic drill when used. Would stay at hostel again, but not that room (7.5) 4

    This is not my first time at Astray and I keep coming back because I just love this place.The people are friendly and nice,it's smack in the middle of town and the rooms ,although a bit small are decorated and furnished in a way that makes you think you're paying high price for it(although you actually are not).The rooms are very clean and quiet and I would definitely come again!!!=) 4

    Lovely friendly people, very clean unit - we loved staying there! As car parks are limited, we arrived back late one night to find we had to park on Pukuatua Street, but when I went down the following morning I found the owner had already fed the meter and was most apologetic that I hadn't been able to get a parking space at the motel. He then suggested I leave the car keys with him and as soon as a motel parking space became available he would move the car for me as I was heading up town shopping - that's what I call service :-) 5

    I am a solo traveler and wanted to save money by staying in a no-frills motel. Astray is clean and the bed was comfortable. The common room had everything you'd need to cook your meals. The location is very close to downtown Rotorua. Staff was helpful with advice and with booking tours. The wifi was not free but the rates were reasonable. One work of caution: The single rooms without en suite are SMALL. As in, there is room for a single bed and a place to stand next to the bed and that is ALL. However, if all you want is to sleep, these rooms will suffice. Especially since you can use the common room and will (hopefully) spend most of your time seeing sights, not in your roomm 4

    What a great location, very central Rotorua. The rooms are clean and have everything for every budget. Likewise the communal areas, very clean and every appliance supplied in the main kitchen. The atmosphere is very friendly and we met many other travellers and enjoyed their company and the owner and his partner. We both highly reccomend Astray to all travellers on all budgets. You get total value for money + Thank you !!!! we will certainly be back on our next visit to Rotorua. 5

    Helpful staff lived on site so always around to answer questions or make conversation. Bus stop right outside made travelling easy. Lots of food places nearby. Room was very comfortable with everything we needed. Had no trouble sleeping because there was little noise at night. Had a great time! 4

    This place was a great place to stay. we had a family room, which we found so homely. The receptionist x2 were so helpful, cheerful, and socialble. Only complaint that I have is that each unit has a parking and inconsiderate patron use 2 parkings instead of parking the other on the road. Excellent accomadation. 5

    Perfect accom for visiting Rotorua. Right in middle of town. Milk in fridge was off and not enough car parking. But all in all, very affordable and everything that is required in this type of accom. Will use it again. Thanks 5

  • We are "compact" accommodation.The room you booked is configured for : sleeps 2 persons , and you turned up with a small child and was charged no more and chose not to upgrade to a bigger room-what more can I say. Thanks for staying though.

    Place was well set out in the rooms. The noise from the kitchen above went all night long until we left at 7.00a.m. even though it said kitchen closes at 10 p.m. Owners very friendly and helpful when we arrived. 5

  • Thanks for your feedback- we suggest that the noise(All Black test night) was from a 2 bedroom unit above you as the managers apartment is below the kitchen. Our goal is to offer a peaceful nights sleep for our guests and we are happy to act on excessive noise after 10pm at night by ringing reception.
