  • Great place to stay. We stayed here as a stop over on the way to auckland, and found the room very clean, and location was close to lots of food places. Only gripe was the bathroom light didn't go, and the bedroom light flicked to the point that you couldn't use it without getting a headache. Had to use the small wall lamps. 5

  • Excellent modern room, with good central location. Unfortunately the Backpackers is right over a club which was open until 2.30am, so not much sleep was had. Would stay again, but not on a Fri or Saturday night if you intend to sleep before 3am. 5

  • Was very nice room with ensuite (for a backpackers) and during the day was fine. We were on the third level and were there for the round Taupo race and as no lift had to walk up stairs with bike & bags etc but no big deal. Only issue was on Friday night the room we had on the north facing side was as if it was on top of a night club with the music from the club down stairs and those across the road pumping the sounds till 3 in the morning. Was a pain on th eFriday night when wanted a semi ealry night but fine on the Saturday night as was out enjoying said music :) Overall was cool place to stay if yo don't want an early night (on North facing side anyway not sure if other rooms are quieter). 5

  • The team at Base Taupo worked hard to rectify problems we had with our booking. Although there was misinformaiton supplied by staff - I had rung to confirm that if we arrived late at night, we would be fine to check in, this was not the case. 3

  • Hi We found the accommodation clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The only draw-back was the noise at night from neighbouring entertainment places, such as the night-club next door. 4 out of 5. Regards, Mike & Jeanne Whiting 4

  • I would rate this place as 5. I had a wonderful stay at Base. The kitchen was adequate, and staff only too helpful to advise on queries and so friendly. I would recommend this place to my family and friends. The only thing I would say that could be improved is that your loud speaker to advise what is going on in Intense Bar and tours be less loud as I jumped out of my skin when I heard the announcement over the P.A.   • The room was very nice and clean. It was quite quiet considering it was right in the middle of town, too cool. While booking in there was a bit of a mix up though, I was told I had to pay an extra $66 or so eventhough Travelbug had charged the total amount to my Visa. I was told that only a 10% deposit was supposed to have been charged through booking it online. After having rung the bank to proved that the total had been paid, I didnt have to pay the extra amount. Fair enough too. I cant remember the name of the girl at the desk but she was understanding about it, pretty cool. 5
