The hotel is really well located for a weekend in wellington. The room was clean and tidy and the staff friendly and helpful. There were one or two small maintenance issues but the staff dealt with them immediately. The only disappointment was that the fridges that used to be in the rooms have been removed - that was certainly the case in the room we had. I'll definitely be back. 5

Was ok. I could have chosen a better room, was in a rush and the didn't check carefully so my bad. Was a clean room but unbearably hot with no fan and the windows were very hard to open/close. Unfortunately the hand basin drain was pretty blocked up as well, so that's my thumbs down. I didn't mentioned as at checkout their computer system crashed and the staff look flustered enough. . 1

I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I have taken careful note of your comment in regard to the temperature in your room during your stay with us; as you know your visit to Wellington coincided with the extreme and exceptional heat wave in New Zealand. It was probably one of the hottest summers of the last 20-25 years. It has been a challenge for many people, including our staff trying to help and assist all our guests as much as they were able to do so. For this reason, I have forwarded your comments to our reservation department asking them to update your profile on our system with a special note reminding you if you wish to book a room in the Quality Hotel with air conditioning for any future stay with us. I was very disappointed to read that the basin drain was blocked. We strive to ensure that all rooms and bathrooms are checked prior to our guest’s arrival as a quality control measure and in this instance it seems not to have been the case. I have forwarded your comment to our maintenance department for their action and reminding them and the Housekeeping department to be more vigilant in quality management to minimise the risk of this reoccurring in the future. I arrived here on a secret hotel deal and got a great uncover secure carpark.i was too late for lunch and had room service. The pumpkin soup was small but nice but didn't come with a bread roll disappointing.the lamb with salad was fatty and not fit for room service quality. The pork dish was nice but lacked enough greens with it. When i checked in i left my laptop and a gag to be stored in lockup but they didnt put bags away first and left them their while serving others. I took my laptop with me because of this and i had to go to a movie.their doesn't seem to be any double glazing windows as i could hear people shouting cars revering and a iron gate banging unsecured all night. It was a very windy wellington day that day and when i went to breakfast the chef left a window open which also banged away. Luckily the front house lady shut it.breakfast was the highlight with a good range,although some condiments weren't labeled. Staff were friendly but they front desk was in overload. 5

Tho small, we found the room to be very comfy and very clean. The street noise was quite audible on the 3rd floor & the curtains too short to block out all the street lights. But for its great location this is expected and didn't greatly affect our sleep. The staff were fantastic & the breakfast amazing. Would happily return for another stay. Best value stay ever. . 5

Like others, the room was surprisingly small. The neighbouring room had their bathroom backing onto my headboard, so could hear them tinkling at 4am when they got up! did not get any street noise, but it was mid-week. The room was clean and the staff excellent and helpful. Breakfast was delish! wish i could have just stayed and pigged out on that! but not a healthy choice. :). 5

Overall it was okay, the food was great,the staff very friendly, but i would say the rooms are to small,but clean,would hate to know what the noiser side was like,as the quieter side that we requested was noisy as ever, rubbish been thrown out at midnight, and we were on the 3rd floor and the people above us were extremely noisy,moving furniture around and walking in high shoes and no consideration for others. This went on right up to 1 am in the morning after complaining twice, it then finally stopped. So this was our first time but not again, sorry. 5

Disappointing stay - the staff was nice but comfort hotel is not a place to stay longer than one night, the rooms are noisey and small, and if you are really unlucky you'll get a room on the main street with a bright light shining in all night. We won't be back. 1

The staff were quite helpful with directing us to bus stops and places to eat, however the bed was very lumpy, could feel the springs...... And very thin walls meant we were constantly woken by other guests doors slamming and talking in the middle of the night made it a disappointing stay....i wouldnt stay there again, this was our second time unlucky!!. 1

2nd stay at the cq through travel bug. Very dissappointed after having had a nice large room and bed first time. This visit the room was extremely small and the bed was only a double- which was not expected given the first stay. I was offered an upgrade but at some considerable increase in price. We stayed for three nights in a standard room. It was a bit annoying being right next door to the laundry but was an ok experience. The bathroom wasn't as clean as it should have been, and it was a bit annoying not having a fridge. But the over all stay was fine as we didn't spend too much time at the hotel. The restaurant caters for people with different food allergies, however i had a gluten free dish and it turned out to be not so gluten free, so i got a bit sick. However the staff did arrange for us to have a free breakfast as compensation. I would have preferred not to get sick on our last night, but at least they did something about the problem. 5

Clean, comfortable, a bit of street noise but only to be expected in such a wonderful central location. Suggested improvements please 1) larger tv. Size does matter! 2) blanket. On a chilly night it was only just warm enough. 3) spare ie third towel would be nice. Great coffee and service from coffee shop just off foyer. (but no sunday star times). Close to lots of other great cares and restaurants). 5

I had a great stay at the CQ. I found the staff very helpful and polite and nothing seemed to be a problem. I arrived in Wellington much earlier than expected and the staff at the hotel were only too happy to look after my bags and offer me a place to get changed so i could carry on with my day in comfort. When i arrived to check in properly i was pleasantly surprised to find my bags already taken to my room. I had a third floor Cuba St facing room and while there was some street noise from late night revelers, it didn't detract from my stay and i dare say you should expect that considering the location - a small price to pay for being in amongst it. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Considering what it cost, i would rate it as great value for money. 5

Just what I was looking for - While, as others have mentioned the room is small, it was adequate and was modern and spotlessly clean inside and conveniently located for my needs. I requested a quiet room with my booking and was located at the end of the building on the first floor - I could not hear anything so that was absolutely brilliant. Minor things to note - No bar fridge or kitchennete. There was a small stand with things to make tea or coffee, and no bars of soap - there was body/hand wash though. Curtain rail on the shower and no bath tub. Very poor and limited Internet in room, although free Wifi in Cuba Street so no biggie. Tiny (14" ?) CRT TV. A cheap LCD TV may have made more sense from a cost point of view. I did not turn on TV so don't know what reception was like. Overall, as a single person who simply wanted a place to wash and crash it was ideal, and I would definitely stay there again for a similar price to what I paid. 5

I booked here on a Secret Sale, so it was a good price and it ended up ok despite my misgivings once I read some reviews. I arrived in the evening and found a park on the street right outside (free between 6 pm and 8 am). I had asked for a quiet room and I slept without disturbance, although I think this was to do with few guests in this wing; noise from the corridor seemed to echo, and there's little insulation. I found the staff pleasant and easy to deal with. It is a beautiful old building, loads of character and well restored. Most of the ways that cost savings have been made didn't bother me (minimal toiletries, no mini-bar) but no fridge was a pain. And the curtains really are just a little bit short, odd ... I simply needed a place to sleep for the night and this was clean and comfortable and secure -- and I did get a good night's sleep and paid a very reasonable price. 5

What a big let-down! I booked this for two of my friends, one from Dunedin and the other from Hamilton for a conference. This was a secret sale and the price was not that cheap though. I thought the reviews were good (since over 90% positive), however, what happen on the day of the check-in was a disappointment. Friend from Hamilton arrived earlier on Friday 23/3/12 and had checked in alright. Second friend arrived from Dunedin at 10pm Friday 23/3/12 and was told that his room has been cancelled. The fact is I had made that booking and has never received any cancellation notice/calls from CQ hotel. Both rooms are booked under same booking. Anyway, the Dunedin friend told the “Shift Manager” that we have a booking confirmation – the manager just said “It wasn’t cancelled by me, someone else in the hotel has cancelled it, and there’s nothing I can do since there are no more rooms in the hotel”. First thing – we didn’t cancel the booking, the hotel management did, and nothing was done to notify us. The booking was made back in Jan 2012 – 2 months timeframe to make that contact. The hotel management was clearly at fault. No refund was made what-so-ever. Second thing – the hotel manager did not do anything to rectify the situation, the least he can do was to ring another motel/hotel in the city to arrange alternate accommodation but rather, he just said “There’s nothing I can do, I didn’t cancel the booking.” Isn’t the hotel manager a representative of the hotel??? My friend rang me to explain the situation while he was waiting outside the hotel. I rang the hotel 0800 number to help sort out the situation. The receptionist put me through to the night shift manager – I was just stating my facts but the hotel manager was just being very defensive and refused to help out – in fact the telephone conversation was monitored (should have a record!). I asked the manager to help the poor friend out by finding him another hotel, since it was the hotel’s mistake in the first place, however, he in return said that because of the tone of my voice, he refused! Oh my, I asked him how do you expect my tone to be? I was obviously upset by such poor arrangement and was anxious. I reasoned out with him, that the least he can do is to help my friend find an alternate accommodation because it was late at night as it was 11pm (I’m from Dunedin too – obviously it’s not as convenient for me to do it!). He reluctantly agrees, adding that he will help to call once he has time! I just said thank you and the conversation ended. The whole ordeal lasted for an hour and was a real pain! My poor friend was waiting outside the hotel the whole time. Later, that manager found my friend “a room” (earlier on, he said the hotel is full!). Oh my, and before letting my friend go back to his “room” to rest, he said “Please ask your friend not to ring again. You guys are annoying.” That is terrible hospitality! We have traveled a lot throughout NZ and world for business and private – but this is the WORST hospitality we have received from a hotel so far. My initial booking has 2 nights for one room and 3 nights for the other room, but the same manager told my Dunedin mate that he confirmed that there will be no room for him the next day! So my friend went on and booked IBIS that night for the next day when back in his room. The next morning, another hotel manager told my friend that there is empty room for him when he was checking out, but gosh it’s too late! And my friend has relied on what was told by the night manager and already booked another room! NB: As this happened in the weekend, I rang the General Manager on Monday afternoon and left a message to ring me back on my cell – but was ignored. I didn’t receive any calls back to date – 2/4/12. 1

We were really disappointed with the room in the Comfort after reading the reviews. It was small, sparsely furnished and although clean and tidy, it betrayed its history as a backpacker hotel. Reception allowed us to upgrade to the adjacent Quality Hotel, where we had an excellent, large room which helped us to enjoy our stay. This was a special weekend for my husband and I as a birthday present for my 70th birthday. We are on holiday from England and staying in Palmerston North with my Son and his family. We think perhaps in the future we will look for 4* or 5* Hotels in N.Z. 1

Our room was not much like the photos supplied. Very small, but livable. Would have appreciated a bar-fridge. The curtains were covered in brown rusty stains, the bedside lamp shades were falling apart and discoloured with brown glue. When we were there it was very hot and the window latches did not work and the windows would not remain open. Other than that, noise was not a problem and it was very clean (major redeeming feature!). I would stay there again, but request a different room (maybe not the 'TravelBug' room) :) 1

I really like this hotel but I think the extra cost to stay in the Quality side is worth it if you like a really nice room (I'd only stayed in the Quality side before. I stayed in room 111 and the curtians are too short. I know it's only about 2 cm's but it is right by your head when you are in bed and the light from the street (not to mention the early morning sun) was VERY anoying. Staff were really friendly. 5

Very convenient location, nice tidy and clean room. No problem with noise, I slept well. Only issue for me was car parking. The site does not mention only limited spaces available,that you need to book a space and at extra cost. All parking gone when I booked in so had to go find park in the street. Bit of a pain. 5

The food was average and not that great The front desk service was excellent from one particular lady called Lauren. I would like the management of the Comfort hotel to know that she is very good at her job with a few exctra favours which made us feel welcome and that we want to visit again. 4

Fantastic place to stay. Rooms were clean and cosy. We requested a room away from the elevator (some reviewers seemed unimpressed) so it was nice and quite. Location is perfect for exploring Wellington, we barely used the car! (Which was locked away securely for $20 per night). Staff were friendly and helpful. Wouldn't stay anywhere else. 5

The room was clean and tidy but very small. The shower and toilet were also very clean. During the night we were kept awake with a lot of noise from I guess Students making a hell of a racket in the Street singing in the very early hours. The Parking was not available as advertised and not Free .We were charged an extra $18 to park overnight in the Council car park round the corner. If the hotel car park fills up they should provide the council parking to you for free.....not a very happy bunny!! 5

We would stay here again. Rooms were clean, airy and comfortable, with nsuite and serviced daily. Iron provided in room, facilities for making tea,coffee, small fridge, sky tv. Very good value for money at $89 per night for the two of us. Short walk to the waterfront, Te Papa well worth the visit. Lots of dining options in Cuba Street. Half hour walk to the train station - or catch the bus. Fifteen - twenty minute walk to the Cable car. Everything fairly central to Cuba street. We will be back - definitely. Staff on the front desk were very polite and helpful. 4

Excellent room I could not have had better. I had requested not on Cuba st and even if the courtyard is not nice looking I don't care as it was quieter. TV was average size not very large, but large enough to watch so it did not bother me. I have recommended the place to friends and also to friends who have a disability as the hotel is fully accessible. 5

Hotel is getting on but has been done up. Real pitty that the television is so old and small it is almost impossible to see. Not too happy to be paying the higher rate for a room not on Cuba street which can be noisy and being given a room with no outlook just an internal courtyard with no light. Overall perhaps alittle basic even if the rate is acceptable. 5
