  • The size of the room was very good, the location was fine. The receptionist needs some customer service training. The linen needs regular changing (hairs on a pillow-stains on towel, mattress protector, mattress). In need of rennovation/redecoration. Would not reccomend. 1

  • Five of us stayed one night, and we were happy with our experience here...The unit is quite dated, and could do with some attention from a handyman, but overall it was good value...We used the spa which worked well, and the staff were very helpful... 5

  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were moved to Silver Oaks Hotel - the staff, service were great and helpful. Very approachable, helpful and will certainly be staying here again. Not Ritz but good value for money and the buffet breakfast is well worth it!!! 5

  • We have previously stayed at the Gwendoline many times a few years ago but were really disappointed to see how run down it has become. This seems to be due to a lack of maintenance ie the cobblestones by the spa badly needed a waterblasting, the chair in our room was all lumpy as springs were coming through, etc. The receptionist wasn't very welcoming either although she was prompt to help us when we discovered we had no TV remote. It has a reasonable tariff but I can't believe it has a 4 star rating. 1

  • Checked in 15 Sept 2010 to a one bedroom spa unit. We were a little late to be collected by our bus, to take us to the Tamaki Maori experience, and the lovely receptionist organised for them to swing by and collect us, which was lovely. The unit was a little small and pokey for a family of 4, but we made do. Didn't realist the spa was to be filled by us just like a bath tub, but we enjoyed it - took ages to fill though. Beds were clean & comfy, but the kitchen and floors needed another clean and vacuum. It's an old motel & the furnishings are too, but not bad value for money. 5

  • The unit was good, the host nice. But the double booking on the first night was unacceptable. I booked 3 weeks in advance, but they waited to see me to tell me that they had a hotel room (with absolutely nothing in it, and at the same price) in the oldest hotel in Rotorua, for me, instead of the unit a booked which has a kitchen, a spa and sly TV. I should have had a refund or a discount. It is unacceptable. 1

  • My Family and Myself stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed being there. Staff were friendly and helpful, the spa was a gem to come home to and the beds nice and comfy. Only little tiny suggestion would be in the hotter months, the "A" frame shape of the roof in the top bedrooms makes the room quiet stuffy and hot in the night, maybe a pedestal fan would be an idea for that. Deff will be back to stay, thankyou all so much AAAAAAA+++++ 5

  • Would stay here again and enjoyed our stay. Was nice to arrive and while the office was unattended there was a welcome note left informing us of our room, and find the room all open and ready - great. The room was tidy, clean and our two kids enjoyed the spa - great shower and good sized rooms. Its not the ritz but after a days travelling it was a nice way to end the day, with warm welcoming hosts, clean facilities and value for money. I would stay there again. Thanks for a great stay 5

  • Arrived on the Saturday of Labour weekend having paid and with confirmation the week before to be told we were upgraded to a different motel. Went to the motel to find a tiny room with no spa in room and not suitable for us with our 4 yr old. Drove another hour to stay with friends in Whakatane (After 3 hrs drive from Auckland) and returned the next day to Gwendoline and got the room we asked for originally. This mean't we extended our long weekend. (Lucky we were so flexible) The room and people were all great, such a pity the booking system they used oversold the rooms and left us with nothing. This should NEVER happen it sucks after driving down from Auckland. No compensation was offered even though the extra night was on a Monday which usually has a lower taffiff. Make sure you specify that the room you see on line is the one you get. 5

  • Plenty of room and great spa pool. DVD didn't work and was advertised with 2 free continental breakfasts but in fact you have to walk down the road to sister motel to have this breakfast! Great for a family and yes I must agree with Pete Lee that the smell of cigarette smoke in the reception area is very strong and not a good look for a nice motel.A good deal overall however. 5

  • We just had 3 nights here, the room was adequate, but a tad run down. It says on the sign out the front, "Superior Accomadation"....we would not rate this as such....there is no oven, the radio didn't work, not al the TV channels worked. There wasn;t a single bed upsatirs, as described, the hooks on the back of the shower door fell off, there wasn't any shampoo and conditioner, or no milk put in fridge on arrival.....AND we were kept awake on our last night by what appeared to be rodents in the walls, scracthing at the wood, and running up and down inside the upstairs wall!!!!!! We made a comment to the office person about this, (not overly friendly, with a pierced tongue and a tattoo I may add....just wonder how the tourists find this????? )....so overall, the room did the job, but we won't be back. 1
