  • Good clean room but our room was double booked and we were sitting in our bed clothes settling down for the night and our room was opened by the other couple who had been booked into our room also. We would use them again but hopefully would not have to experience this sort of thing happening again. Very good buffet breakfast in the morning but please please get your bookings sorted out so it doesn't happen to anyone else. 5

  • Dear Janet, we are very sorry that this has happened and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies. The mix up happened due to a new software system that is integrated with our key cutting system and obviously things did not work correctly in this instance.   • Arrived at the hotel to be told that they stuffed up the booking and only had 1 twin room and not the 2 i had booked and the place was full with no spare rooms. After telling me they were going to try and move us to another hotel we told them it wasn't good enough. Next thing two double rooms were found, side-by-side. Frustrating. 1

  • Overall experience was good, minor niggle of a 24/7 droning from outside, dont know if it was the electricity sub station outside the front of hotel or the air con at the back? felt the rooms could be double glazed as a fair bit of road noise seeped in. Rooms and bed were comfortabe, clean, and housekeeping service was excellent. Had to take our own luggage up to fifth floor as person on reception was busy! overall, no major complaints, would consider returning when next in dunedin. . 5

  • Would of been nice to be informed before booking room that the hotel was under construction, as first room we were given the balcony was filfthy. Very prompt on moving us to another room though which was alot better :) but wasnt until later that night when turning tv on we discovered the reception was very poor, and worse on some channels more than others. And in the morning not very happy bout being awoken to power tools, contractors banging around etc above our room!!!!!!! . 1

  • We booked the kingsgate because of its handy location to the venue we were going to, very handy and away from the noisy student area which we had experienced another time. Food at the restaurant was enjoyable, staff very pleasant and helpful but we did have a room near an outside door where someone was wanting in at 4.30am. . 5

  • Stay was good, staff were very friendly and excellent to deal with. One problem that put me off staying there again was their internet service - after paying $29 for 3 hours of interenet on wi fi I was also charged $74 for use of my computer in my room - it was exactly the same network and I disconnected every time I used the internet and was only on the net for no more than 1 hour total. But because the plug was in my computer with it disconnect to the network I was charged on a per minute basis - this was completely over the top - I feel it was expensive enough at $29 with out the extra 74 dollars which I simple refused to pay. If the Kingsgate want to pursue the matter then they can along with a complaint to the fair trading act the commerce commission - the hotels association, travel bug and any one else who is interested. Interesting enough I was able to get free Wi fi just down the road at the cafe. I have travelled extensively and have never come across such misinformation at he front dress or confusion regards two systems on the same network - reason enough never to return to the Kingsgate group or use Travel bug again.   • Somewhat ordinary and dated decor, although some obvious attempts are being made to rectify these situations. My room looked across the city and it was an easy walk to the Octagon. Outside balcony was great and the room was sun-lit most of the day. Bathroom accessories/towels etc., were very good and the shower water-pressure was excellent [and very hot], although it took the hot water an age to eventuate! Modestly priced room for 3 nights, but the $50 per day meal/beverage allowance [on my particular rate] was pretty damn good. "Jimmy's Kitchen" restaurant food quality - outstanding. Rosemary, who worked in the restaurant was exceptional. Recalled my name and possessed that not-too-often-found excellent touch of Kiwi friendliness and food/beverage knowledge that invited my return each day I was a hotel guest. Some of Dunedin's cafe wait-staff could take lessons from Rosemary's positive attitude and manner towards their patrons. Overall, a well-worth stay and I would willingly return. 5

  • Hotel being refurbished so a bit tatty in places but room large and comfortable. However, didn't like being charged $12 for 2hrs WiFi access which all had to be used in one go and although we had a couple of excellent meals in the restaurant, the rest were 'average' to 'poor'. Hotel very central and sure once refurbishment is completed it will be much better. 5

  • Unfortunately we were not able to keep this booking. Our son had an accident and we had to change our plans. We did contact the hotel hoping that we could transfer our booking to another date and the hotel gave us a number to call but that was out of service. A second call to the hotel and the receptionist said she would try and work something out for us and get back to us. We still haven't heard. 5

  • Very very average. Booked a suite for my friend and I to stay in overnight. The pullout bed only had blankets, no duvet. The lighting was shocking, only lamps. And in the bedroom, there were not enough sockets to plug both lamps in. Really dim, hard to see in. But otherwise the accommodation was adequate. Breakfast was excellent however. 5
