  • Nice staff. Bit sterile and smelt funny. Had to use wifi in the foyer, one in room didn't work. Food in restaurant well presented but not as tasty as it could have been for the price. Free carparking an advantage and the hotel seemed quite conveniently placed. 1

  • We had booked a "superior" room but it looked more like a standard room. The bedding and curtains look a bit "tired" and need a make over. The double bed was very uncomfortable and the single bed looked like the bedding wasnt changed . Otherwise, it was clean, the staff very very helpful and the breakfast was good. 5

  • We asked for a quiet room, away from traffic noise and elevator and we were given a 6th floor tower room. It was clean and comfortable though the tv was rather small. I used the make-up remover towellettes that were provided along with the moisturizer. These were not then replaced again over our 3-night stay. I'm sure the hotel would prefer me to use make-up remover rather than staining their towels. We should have gotten more! we did, however, receive a newspaper every morning which was a very nice touch. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered some ice to our room and it literally came within seconds of me placing the call. The hotel's location is very convenient to shops, the mall, restaurants, pubs and the sports stadium. We did not need to use our car at all!! i felt the breakfast was a bit over-priced. If i'm paying $21.50, i would expect an omelette station and fresh juice, not cold scrambled eggs and a juice-type drink. Overall, a good stay! . 5

  • This was my first stay at the kingsgate and stayed in one of the rooms around the back. While the room was relatively tidy, the rooms are in major need of an upgrade. I had taken some food with me which needed to be chilled and the freezer in my room was just gross. I also had towels in my bathroom which had yellow stains all over them and 2 face cloths (one of which was white and the other almost brown). While i will stay there again it will be to try one of the tower rooms rather then one of the outside ones. On the upside the staff were fantastic to deal with. 1

  • This is my second stay in the hotel.i booked online and asked in the comments for a 6th floor in tower block but got the 3rd floor.they soon changed that.the good thing about the minibar is you can ask for more items which is great.they seemed short staffed this time as the bar wasn't attended for me to buy bar snacks.last time i was their a ordered wedges and for the money its worth it, as its as big as a main meal.try and get the 6th floor for best views and air cond.they were running a new computer system this time and i feel had too many in that part running it that could be put to use elsewhere in the hotel. You can order room service or eat at restaurant.the meals are really nice and quick service.last time i stayed i had a guy snoring at 2am but not this time. The staff are really friendly and helpful especially in the restaurant. The internet is bad their at the moment i didn't pay that day.i got a free android hotspot that night. . 5

  • Have stayed before and though rooms are old they have always tidy. Unfortunetaly this time got a room that had a bad bathroom, shower showing rot, water continued to run after shower, towels old with little holes, and a few ants. Door into room stuck and hard to open once out. Hotel was not full so no need to rent room. . 1

  • We were upgraded and stayed in the tower block. Room which was very comfortable and clean. Staff at reception were very helpful and polite. However there had been a problem with staff having entered an incorrect date/year for our booking, even after having phoned to check the booking before arrival, as we required an earlier entry to the room. However, this was quickly and efficiently rectified on arrival. Very good location. 5

  • I found the Kingsgate to be really good but there were a couple of not so good bits. The price $65.00 was great but the room was a little tired. The furniture could use a little paint which was chipped otherwise all good. The staff really made the stay worthwhile. The resturant was great and the ceasar salad was devine with the chocolate brownie. Breakfast was more than what I expected - a great range. I asked the following day if I could keep my bags there while I went into town and this was not a problem. All the staff that I dealt with were a credit to this hotel with being really helpful and nice. I would highly recommend the Kingsgate. 5

  • This Kingsgate is well past it's use by date. Room 122 anyway. It was gross to say the least. It smelt , was very dated, had no plates or bowls or cuttlery, did have a jug and a couple of cups. The bathroom was certainly not like the advertised photo on the website. There was mould on the shower walls and once again the bathroom was an original and very in need of replacing! The beds were clean but I was surprised to find what I kicked my foot on was blocks of rough sawn timber under the bed. The bed leg was missing so they had propped it up with blocks of wood!!. The restaurant was lovely and so were the staff. A shame about the room.A call from reception as soon as we arrived to see if things were ok in the room was made as soon as we entered the room & therefore we hadn't had time to unpack or see what we were receiving.Smart move by the receptionist. I really struggle to see why people would want to stay in this disgusting room which was paid for months in advance through Travel Bug 1

One of the beds had a leg missing so was proped up with rough sawn blocks of wood!! • Whilst the hotel condition and location were fine(I have stayed at the Kingsgate Palmerston North previously for business)we were quite disappointed with the resturant. Our room resturant menu sounded really good and based on that we made a booking for dinner, however when we were given the menus in the resturant they were quite different to the ones in the room and did not have the meals we had selected and the prices were quite different. When we challanged this the waitress said she had been away for a month and had not been updated with the changes, she spoke to her Manager however this did not bring any satisfaction, basically that is what it is take it or leave it so we left. What is disappointing is there was no effort to satisfy our customer complaint. We filled in the Hotels feed back form which they leave in the room and encourage us to fill in however to date there has been no response which is also very disappointing. We probably would not choose this Hotel again. 1

  • This is the second time we have stayed at the Kingsgate and chose to go back because the previous room in the Tower block was lovely and breakfast great, unfortunately this time when we were cheeky enough to ask for an upgrade to celebrate our anniversary we were upgraded to a bigger room but not as nice as the smaller room especially with the shower over a very small bath and the bed very low and small and the furniture all tired looking. Sadly we also had what sounded like a whole judo team of children staying on our floor and thought it was acceptable to run up and down the corridor banging on doors, not the most romantic stay! Also was a very busy weekend so breakfast a little lacking it was obviously first in first served. Not sure that we will stay again, but a pity as very central and the staff are great. 5

We appreciate feedback so that we can rectify any issues plus improve on service. We have found that for best results, if guests have any issues if they can raise them while that are here it is often easier for us to assist.
