Excellent accomodation- hotel style at motel prices. Modern , scrupulously clean and very comfortable. Location was perfect- quiet and plenty of space in the gardens for a family game of cricket or touch. Our unit was warm comfortable and well equipped; the fact it was not yet modernized was no barrier to our enjoying a very pleasant stay in beautiful surroundings. Quiet and peaceful with plenty of birdsong! no extractor fan in the bathroom meant that condensation settled on the tiled floor making it very slippery, and there was only one bedside table, but no doubt these issues will be fixed in any upgrade making ratanui a really good place to stay. Booking hassel free. Arrival formalities worked well (Upgrade to house in place of two room cottage required by Ratanui Villas). Firstly, the hosts were friendly and the setting was very beautiful and obviously lovingly maintained. The studio i stayed in wasn't. It wasn't cozy, in fact it was cold and felt damp. You could see daylight around the frames of the front and rear doors. I got a splinter from the badly repaired tv stand. The outdoor style bulkhead light in the kitchenette needed fixing (and it would have been nice if it wasn't covered in dust and insects). The curtain was missing from the wardrobe/closet area. I don't mind basic and dated accommodation. Given the setting - and with half as much tlc as the garden receives - it could have offered fair value. Really enjoyed our stay! Lovely hosts, so kind and caring. The 1 bedroom we stayed in (executive I believe) was modern, being decently furnished and had a comfortable bed. Very clean and tidy. All the needed facilities were there to enjoy a long stay. The outside gardens were lovely and it was close to other tourist attractions. Would definitely come again. My wife and I went to Ratanui Villas for a week-end away to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a warm welcome and from the start we have enjoyed the beautiful gardens and scenery of mount Taranaki. The new refurbished bedroom looked so pretty and we have enjoyed the clean kitchen and bathroom. We went down for WOMAD 2011 and stayed for 3 nights. The rooms were very tastefully refurbished with modern fittings and a nice layout. Excellent place to stay, not too far from town and very easy direct roads to get straight into middle of city. We got upgraded for free so were stoked! Mr Muldoon Firstly, I am sorry that you gave Ratanui Villas the thumbs down. Yes - you are quite correct we are very 70's and yes, we are basic accommodation and our prices reflect this. BUT to be honest the accommodation is no different to the images that you would have viewed before making your booking. We do have 2 very lovey refurbished executive units and the mages show these units plus they are priced at a slightly higher rate due to the fact they have that '70's feel' removed. I am sorry that the accommodation was not as you expected and we would like to invite you to book an executive unit for your next stay in New Plymouth. As you mentioned the grounds are lovely and that is the 'draw card' for this property. Tranquil and Serene is what Ratnaui Villas offers. Many thanks for your custom.Ratanui Villas
