Brand new accommodation in Manapouri situated on the Southern Scenic Route, just 1km from the Manapouri township and 20km from Te Anau.
When we began construction on the cottages we placed a huge emphasis on being as environmentally sensitive as possible.
Where we could we used untreated timber from renewable resources. The cottages are highly insulated in the walls, ceilings and underfloor using recycled materials and they feature double glazed windows to help minimize heat loss.
The use of energy efficient heating and air conditioning units along with the insulation and double glazing means the cottages are always warm but very quiet as well.
We use energy efficient lighting where possible and biodegradable cleaning products and encourage our visitors to assist our efforts by having an active recycling program. Very little rubbish goes to landfill because we collect food scraps for composting and recycle glass, metal, paper and plastic.

Wonderful cottages. Superb setting, clean, tidy, modern, well equipped. A pleasure to deal with Zeb via telephone who was happily able to accommodate a couple of our specific requests and the online booking was straightforward. We found the owners to be very helpful and courteous. Overall a wonderful experience. Though we visited in Autumn (Fall), it is obvious that the cottages would also be very comfortable over winter.

Very easy online booking system enabled us to make quick decision about our trip as we were planning last minute to get good weather in Doubtful Sound. The place was very well presented - immaculately clean and with nice touches like coffee press and real coffee. The owners were helpful and friendly. I would have liked a dimmable light or a reading light in the lounge as it was a bit harsh under the overhead lights - and bedrooms had only one bedside light, so same there. Otherwise pretty perfect! We walked across the field to the pub overlooking the lake for an excellent dinner, so no need for a car!

We were extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the property. It was spacious, for a family of four, with comfortable furnishings and fittings. The provision of in-unit laundry facilities was most appreciated. The hosts were very accommodating, making sure we had a positive experience.

I can't rate this place highly enough. It was so comfortable being there. So clean. So perfect. On top of that, zeb the owner was so welcoming, warm, friendly and genuine, he just made me feel completely at ease. He's a man you'd trust, a man of character and integrity. The accommodation is a reflection of him. I'll be back someday.

We recently spent a couple of nights at Acheron Cottages as a base from which to take a tour of Doubtful Sound. We were thrilled with our stay at the cottages - we arrived from Queenstown at 9pm, but still received a very warm welcome from Zeb; there was fresh milk in the fridge; the bedlinen was warm and cosy; there was a book of local restaurant information; if there hadn't been a visitor's book there showing comments back to 2009, we would have thought our cottage was brand new; there was a huge, manicured lawn on which the kids could run. We would definitely recommend Acheron Cottages!
