Chelmswood Motel is a Tudor style complex located at the southern entrance to Taupo with beautiful views of Lake Taupo. 36 Units 24 of which have their own private Thermal Mineral Pools.
Easy to find and conveniently located on State Highway One which passes through Taupo on the way to either Auckland or Wellington.
The complex sits on two acres of grassland with stunning views of Lake Taupo. There is ample secure parking for cars, boat and trailers.
There is an extensive range of accommodation options available with different price ranges to suit all your requirements.
While staying have a fun-filled break and use the heated swimming pool, redwood sauna, children's playarea,free bikes,large grassed BBQ area or just sit along the front of the complex and soak up the views of Lake Taupo.

Really enjoyed our stay, everything was very clean and tidy, and everyone friendly. Will definitely stay there again. Only negative thing was being woken by trucks starting up, they had obviously spent the night behind our unit and had to have an early start to their day, but that is not enough to put us off visiting again in the near future.

Thanks for the feedback Beverley, we apologise for the truck noise, we slipped up, we normally check with the truck drivers and if they have early starts we put them away from units so they sneak out unheard. Remind us when you next visit and we will ensure you are well away from the drive end of complex to be doubly sure.

The facility was exactly right for my needs and the proprietors were very helpful in every way. The provision of a lift to and from the town was very useful and arranging trips with a local driver, Gus, proved a real bonus. However the accommodation was rather noisy at times during the night, only partly due to lack of sound-proofing.

Thanks for your feedback Cary, yes when we are totally full the the hotel style rooms in that wing where each room is off a central corridor can be noisy with the numbers in house. Next visit give the Lakeview units a go, Twice the size our private mineral pool, cooking facility and LakeViews BBQ table etc, sound proof and own carpark and enterance and only a few dollars more. love to see you back when next in Taupo.

Comfortable room and friendly service. The microwave was a bit out of the way - maybe a hole in the upper shelf so the power cord can go through rather than having to take the whole thing down? but all in all a good place to stay.

Excellent service. Lovely and warm with the under-floor heating. Our lakefront unit had lovely views over the lake and there was a very large grassy area up to the road which shielded us from traffic noise. I agree with everything that o'kane said on 9/9/11.

Fairly simple but also very comfortable. Soft bed (may be a good or bad thing depending on who you are). Awesome pool for relaxing after a long drive and day on the tools. The bathroom was nice and everything was clean. Friendly staff. I always rate free internet highly which is a must have for me. My only negative is how much i could hear in the hall way. I am a light sleeper and ended up wearing ear plugs as people coming and going woke me up. Still, it was definitely a thumbs up and i would certainly stay there again on a work trip. Probably not if i was on a romantic getaway though.

Thanks for the kind words Leigh when you wnt that romantic getaway you can try the lakeview units that have their own private thermal pool in room and unobstructed lake views, their own BBQ tables and Chairs to simply soak up the peace and trenquility and the glorious sunsets before watching a movie in the peace of a sound proof room its only a few dollars more than the Ensuite Studios that you enjoyed this trip.
