Makarora Homestead offers a secluded retreat in the midst of the Southern Alps... Conveniently located between Wanaka & Queenstown to the south & the Glaciers to the North relax in the tranquil setting of Makarora... an ancient healing valley of the First Nation People "Waitaha".
Option of self contained studio with kitchenette, en suite & private deck OR 2 detached double rooms each with en suite, tea/coffee facilities & balcony with stunning mountain/rural views. For larger groups there is the option of the Homestead our large comfortable 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with fully equipped kitchen, covered deck with BBQ, large wood fire offering guests the home away from home feeling!

We stayed in one room in the big house. No one else was there. Bed was comfortable, place was clean, kitchen and common spaces really big and kitchen has everything you need. Can imagine big groups staying in this house very comfortably and being able to make fun,big dinners. It was a cold, rainy night, and the managers had started the fire for us. There were quite a few flying bugs in my room, but once I'd used the bug spray I had brought, I had a great night's sleep. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet outside. The continental breakfast basket provided was very nice and it was lovely to eat out on the verandah with the mountain vista before us.

Not much interaction with our hosts, wifi is only good standing at your car, but overall it was a good stay, and a good rest after a long day on the road. Unique shower, comfortable beds. Would stay there again.

Hi and a sincere thankyou for your post ....we try and gauge whether our guests are "conversation friendly" or would like to keep to themselves after a big day on the road ....somtimes we get it spot on somtimes we dont. I biult the shower myself so liked your comment ..enjoy your travels Rick and Kenna

Our studio unit was clean, warm and well equiped. The bed was so comfortable and the electric blanket turned on for our arrival was a wonderful surprise. Our hostess was a lovely and very helpful lady. We stayed an extra night and we hope to return again soon.

Great place in the countryside.Made welcome.Only possible downfall is if you are disabled.etc.Most places had steps to them,Did not ntice any without steps apart from one which seemed to be a family unit.Other wise first class accomadation, excellent!!

We were stuck in Makarora because of the torrential rain on 8-9 Jan. but the manager at the Homestread made our stay a memorable one by providing the whole house for the dress of us.
