The Empire Hotel has historic associations with Palmerston North - it was the city's first school. In 1890 the school was relocated and the building was converted into a hotel and has been a popular hotel both for local residents and visitors to the city.
Our 14 rooms are comfortable and tidy. They have ensuite bathrooms, tea/coffee making facilities and SKY TV. Located in the city centre makes for an easy stroll to shopping and inner city attractions. The bar downstairs is one of the most popular bars in town and we also boast having Palmerston North's only Mexican Restaurant. We're perfect for golfers or sports teams looking to stay and enjoy the great night life of Palmerston North.
With all the above, Off street parking, 18 gaming machines, Manned TAB facilities, a pool table, covered smoking areas, and only a five minute drive to airport, you can't go wrong!

Paid for the premium room because it was supposed to be quiet - no bar noise - 3 nights in a row the noise from the \office next door kept us awake till up to 3 in the morning - pity as this is not a bad hotel and really central.

Very handy location, clean and tidy. A chair and table would have been a nice addition. Was a bit noisy - not so much the bar but the returning guests - and the noise of the next door guest laundry in use. .

Affordable, clean and handy to the city centre, but as warned in the description, downstairs bar is open and plays loud music until 3 am Friday and Saturday, which is fine if you are planning to stay up until then yourself.

Yes, while not the most "stylish," the bed was comfortable and the shower had good pressure. Didn't hear noises from the bar, but was woken several times by other guests returning noisily to their rooms. More space for the tea/coffee-making would be good. When we got back to the hotel after 8pm, all the carparks were "full" (presume with restaurant guests?) and we had to leave our car out on teh street overnight.

Ideal if all you are going to do is sleep - clean tidy and very central to downtown. Could possibly remove one bed and put a chair or chairs. Would stay again when down in Palmy

Great Place! Not very stylish, but a lot of space, coffee, tea, cacao (!!) and sky tv (movies). Free parking in the back. The best was the free laundry ;-) Also the staff was very, very friendly, although we had to wait a few minutes or looking for a receptionist. Would come back!
