We camped in an unpowered site just after new years and we immensely enjoyed our stay. This campground is far quieter than the one nearby in russell (something we considered to be a real bonus). The facilities were very clean, tidy and hygienic. 5ANDY D - Jan 13, 2013 Travelbug verified review

A great place to stay. Pretty, quiet, friendly, helpful and clean. Excellent facilities. Close to Russell. Highly recommended.

We had a young family and was warmly welcomed by our hosts. We stayed in the kitchen cabin right next door to the bathrooms/showers. Room was very tidy and presentatable on arrival, room also had kitchen/cooking facilities which was handy. Double bed with bunk beds also. The holiday park itself offers plenty of parking, great refreshing swimming pool and childrens playground which all suited us. For $85 per night we thought this represented good value. The holiday park is suitated approx 1.5kms from Russell which is again very handy. Russell is basically your access point to explore all of The Bay of Islands. Some things which could be improved were: 1) Having a small milk in the fridge on arrival would be good to have a cup of coffee/tea; 2)The bathroom light at night is timer set which means it can switch off right in the middle of your shower leaving you in the dark; 3) The noise at night from what sounds like a pump or water noise, water boiling noise. Apart of these awesome stay

Whilst we enjoyed our holiday up north, we felt this accommodation was more basic than we expected. On our arrival our fridge was leaking and not closing properly. The sheets on the bed although cleanish were stained. Our faulty fridge was replaced with a very large fridge which we appreciated. It took some time for our broken fridge to be removed and in the end my husband lugged it out! The sink also leaked and it was extremely noisy being right beside the kitchen. New years eve was especially bad and whilst some noise is to be expected I felt people still celebrating and laughing at 3.00 am was a bit much! The website photos give the impression that it is close to a nice place to swim but in reality it is close to mud flats and an oyster farm! We certainly wont be staying there again and will not recommend it to our friends.

We spent 3 nights at orongo lodge over easter.its close proximity to the russell township was very convenient. our cabin was very tidy and clean,and our children thoroughly enjoyed the facilities which included a fresh water pool and table sports.we would have no hesitation in recommending this level of accomodation.

It was a pretty good place to enjoy summer time however some light bulb in the shower room and loo didn't work properly.
