The name of this peaceful location is Maori, meaning 'hills of heaven'. The most scenic way to reach Pukerangi is to either ride the Taieri Gorge train from Dunedin to Pukerangi Railway Station situated on Barewood, a vast high-country farm in the rolling hills of Otago, or by vehicle.
Visit remnants of gold mines and pan for gold in the Taieri River or simply relax on the front porch admiring the spectacular views of the Rock and Pillar mountain range. Our nearest small town is Middlemarch - 25 minutes' drive - where you will find the only inland salt lake in NZ. In addition there is a golf course, bowling green, hotel craft and antique shop, dairy, hotel, cafes and a swimming pool. Historic tours of the area are available.
