The name of this peaceful location is Maori, meaning 'hills of heaven'. The most scenic way to reach Pukerangi is to either ride the Taieri Gorge train from Dunedin to Pukerangi Railway Station situated on Barewood, a vast high-country farm in the rolling hills of Otago, or by vehicle.

Visit remnants of gold mines and pan for gold in the Taieri River or simply relax on the front porch admiring the spectacular views of the Rock and Pillar mountain range. This graciously renovated historical farmhouse has 4 en-suite double bedrooms, each uniquely themed, offering a luxurious complement of fine linens, feather-down duvets, and natural New Zealand toiletries. The homestead accommodates couples seeking a romantic getaway, or larger groups or families wishing to occupy the entire house. A hearty continental or cooked breakfast is included in the tariff. The homestead's fully appointed kitchen is available for self-catering or meals can be provided by prior arrangement.

Its tiled en-suite has a shower, heated towel rail, mirror de-mister, hair dryer, under floor heating, fluffy robes, and naturally made NZ toiletries. In addition there is a TV&DVD player.

The Scottish room overlooks the garden, has a queen-sized bed with electric blanket, fine linens feather/down duvet, wool pillow and a TV and DVD player. Its en-suite which was the original bathroom has a shower, heated towel rail, mirror de-mister, wall heater, hairdryer, fluffy robes and naturally NZ made toiletries.

The French room with garden views has a queen size bed with electric blanket, fine linen, feather/down duvet and wool pillows, TV and DVD player. Its luxurious spacious tiled en-suite features a claw-foot bath overlooking the garden, a large shower and vanity, under floor heating, heated towel rail, mirror de-mister, hair dryer, fluffy robes and naturally NZ Made toiletries. Simple elegance.

The Kiwi room features French doors that open onto a private courtyard overlooking the mountains and farm - a perfect setting for breakfast or pre-dinner relaxation. All rooms are serviced daily. There is courtesy transport to Middlemarch where you have a selection of dining experiences. The lounge has a cosy open fire, large comfortable couches, surround sound stereo, a marble chess set plus a selection of other board games, a library, and lavish furnishings which all make this room warm and inviting.

We have farm tours with seasonal shearing demonstrations, historic gold mine tours, mountain biking, walking, tramping, hunting and fishing. Explore the old building on the property or wander down to the duck pond and experience the abundance of wildlife around you. Our nearest small town is Middlemarch - 25 minutes' drive - where you will find the only inland salt lake in NZ. In addition there is a golf course, bowling green, hotel craft and antique shop, dairy, hotel, cafes and a swimming pool. Historic tours of the area are available.
