Nisbet Cottage / Nature Guides Otago

Nisbet Cottage is situated on a half-acre property on the hills to Otago Peninsula with outstanding views of Dunedin, and only seven minutes drive from the town centre.

The house was built in 1928 as part of the Presbyterian Support Services Association Glendining Children's Home Complex and named after Reverend Thomas Nisbet.

In 1996, Hildegard and Ralf Lübcke purchased the house – they have restored and modernised the property in keeping with its historic character and heritage.

Today, Nisbet Cottage offers luxury accommodation in two spacious suites with king bed and ensuite facilities, as well as television, video, safe and complimentary broadband internet access. A large sundeck, accessible from the private guest lounge has been added offering the most amazing views of the city and the hills beyond. Hildegard and Ralf live in adjacent quarters. The garden has undergone extensive re-planting and now attracts an increasing number of native birds. Hildegard operates the eco-tourism venture Nature Guides Otago, enabling guests to experience New Zealand wildlife first-hand.

Nisbet Cottage caters exclusively for guests who are participating in the eco-excursions offered by Nature Guides Otago. Minimum requirement is a 2-night package which includes accommodation, breakfast, 'Sunrise Penguin Walk', and the 'Peninsula Excursion and Albatross Encounter' day-tour. A good level of fitness is required for all tours. The tours are suitable for adults only.

There are 2 restaurants within easy walking distance and a regular bus service to the city. We are happy to advise on dining options and provide courtesy transport to the restaurant.
