  • It was private, quiet, the owners were wonderfully hospitable. Beautiful nature. The only thing that was not quite to my taste was that sheep on the paddock were right in front of my cottage - the smell was a bit too strong. 4
ANNA VOLNOVA - Feb 28, 2014 (Stayed Feb 2014) Travelbug verified review
  • Thanks for your review Anna. We hope you enjoyed your visits to the special Catlins attractions on your way home, it was such a long way to come. Sorry that you found your neighbours a bit too smelly - hot summer weather and all that wool ... we can understand that you would not have wanted to sit outside on the verandah of your cottage. However, there are plenty of places to sit outside in the grounds of Mohua Park where there would only be the resident birds and the smells of the forest. It is funny because sometimes we have return visitors grumbling if 'their' sheep are not there for them to watch. They are part of living in the country and a special delight in spring when they have young lambs.

  • Ferguson and Mary were very helpful and welcoming. The Eco-cottage was perfect for two people and was well-equipped and nicely appointed. The trails on the property offer the opportunity to see and hear a variety of birds. If you love nature, the location is idyllic, if somewhat remote. 4

  • Although off the beaten track, Mohua Park is close to Owaka and within easy driving of the points of interest. Our cottage (Riroriro) was very comfortable and set up to be self-suffient for cooking simple meals: microwave, a electric element and a small oven. Mary and Fergus are friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. We appreciated the solitude of Riroriro cottage and the beauty of the surroundings. 5
DIANA ELLIS - Dec 13, 2013 (Stayed Dec 2013) Travelbug verified review
  • We're pleased you enjoyed your stay in Riroriro, which, by the way, is the name of a small native bird that makes a superb enclosed nest. We have followed up on your suggestion and have ordered specially marked chopping boards in each cottage. Thanks.
