We are a little, unique and typical kiwi beach camping ground with lots of character – not like the new and anonymous 'industrial holiday parks' without any character that you might find in destinations all around New Zealand these days.
Camp in our scenic reserve with beach access, extensive bird and marine life, the boulders a short stroll away and star gazing at night.
Insiders have been flocking to beautiful Hampden Beach since many generations to enjoy the safe swimming beach or kayak the lagoon. And also the fishing in the bay is awesome.
You might see the endemic hector dolphin in the bay and a leisurely stroll along the beach (25 minutes) will take you to the ancient and mystic Moeraki Boulders.
Ride a bike to the lighthouse (about 8 km one way) and see the beautiful coast as well as the yellow eyed penguin and seal colony... you might even find yourself on your own – sorry, no tourist crowds here!
The Moeraki Boulders are on the way, and so is the restaurant on the cliff top – why don't you stop there for refreshments on either way?

The weekend was nice and relaxing even though it was Easter weekend and the camping ground was full. We didn't bring our children but the children who were there, were well behaved and enjoying themselves.

Great little spot on the beach - friendly owners - thought with the name it may be closer to moeraki or the boulders (but should have checked the map here myself!) -a nice beach only 100m from the holiday park, clean and comfortable and a great campground..

Very nice campsite, great location, very friendly staff. We arrived with problems with one of the bikes, and they couldn't be more helpful sorting the problem.

The motel was clean (apart from a bit of dust under the bed). It was well furnished. The caretaker was very friendly and available when needed. We enjoyed our stay.

Hi Greg Thanks for your honest feedback. We opted for warm and comfortable vinyl floor instead of carpets in our motel unit as we find that carpets hold a lot of dust (and more) even if you don't see it. The problem with vinyl floors is that you see even the slightest dust. This seemed to have been the case when you visited, probably because the windows are left open during the day to air the unit out. My apologies. Alex
