Quiet rural setting overlooking Lake Rerewhakaaitu surrounded by dairy farms and forestry.

Relax in your room or on the deck with panoramic views of Lake Rerewhakaaitu and Mt Tarawera. Forestry and farming vistas, from the lounge and dining areas with some of the best sunsets in the world. The boundaries of the property are on the lake edge, where you can walk or fish at your leisure..

Ashpit Place is within close proximity to Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland and also Waimangu Thermal Reserve, both of which I would recommend a visit. We are on the way to Lake Waikaremoana which is in the Whirinaki National Park which is one of the most previous rainforests in the world. Great opportunities for tramping and visiting waterfuls and lakes. Waikite Thermal Pools are just over the hill where you can soak in thermal theraputic waters, great after a busy day sightseeing.

We are half an hour's drive from Rotorua where there are lots of restaurants, and then there is the Waikite Thermal Pools also do meals and a short walk to the spring where the water to fill the pools comes from. But if you would like to have dinner with us then let me know.

Guests Comments
"We had 2 wonderful days with Alison and Scott in their beautiful bungalow; their welcome was warm and genuine. Our bedroom and ensuite were spotless and the attention to detail was excellent with home made cake and biscuits in our room. Our evening meals with them were very jolly and all the food was delicious. We left feeling totally relaxed and will definitely recommend Ashpit Place to friends visiting that area of New Zealand." Ashpit Place
  • First a warning: Ashpit Place is in the boons, 30 minutes from restaurants and lodgings in Rotarua. But read on: It is worth the drive because Scott and Allison's home is stunning and located in a stunning locale. Mt. Tarawera looms in the distance across beautiful farm land and Lake Rotamahana sits in the foreground. Their home is beautifully landscaped and the inside is worthy of a 5 star hotel. Because Ash Pit place is so far from town, Allison suggested that she cook dinner for us. The meal was delicious with vegetables from Allison's gardens. Scott is a retired dairy farmer who was born in the region so he gave us a detailed history of the area. Ash Pit place is particularly convenient if you are driving from Rotarua southward to Lake Taupo. And, it is 20 minutes from Wai O Tapu, a volcanic wonderland (and definitely worth a visit.) 5

  • Beautiful accommodation in a lovely setting, hosts very friendly and helpful. We took the evening meal option and enjoyed a pleasant evening with our hosts, Scot and Allison. Both accomodation and meals were to a high standard and are not to be missed. We felt like part of the family. 5
