The hotel is just a short 5 minute stroll to Rotorua Golf Club and 4 blocks to the city centre, Polynesian Spa and mystical Lake Rotorua. Copthorne Hotel Rotorua has extensive leisure facilities including heated outdoor pool, private spa, sauna and tennis court (racquets & balls provided).
Jimmy Cook's Kiwi Kitchen has excellent value traditional Kiwi fare with family buffet or à la carte dining, hearty cooked or continental breakfast options.

Not for a romantic weekend away but good if you don't mind a hotel that's 10 years overdue a total refurbish. (i dared to go out on the deck once - looked like it could fall to bits anytime soon). The staff at the copthorne are great, the food is good to okay (breakfast - good value if they give you a special deal). It is possible we were housed in the older section of the hotel but i would give the hotel itself a 1-2 star rating and the staff a five star. I would stay only if travelling through rotorua by myself. .

I had been in tourism for over 20 years, and always liked this hotel. A bit surprised to hear of the sudden name change, but the hotel was the same old hotel.

Not exactly what you see on their website, what a scam. Service is poor, on departure, lady at reception was extremely rude. The shower was pathetic, so slow, very old, needs a revamp urgently. The room was not cleaned on the one day. As for the 'free sauna and spa" oh my gosh, really bad, please stop offering it to your customers. The service at the bar area was good, very friendly gentleman. I will never stay or recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was very disappointed the room condition. The electric kettle in room was dirty with moulds inside. There was used toiletry in the bathroom. The bathtub was not clean enough to use with soap scum. There was a 50 dollar voucher included in the room . However when i rang to room service to have some snacks at 11pm, there was nobody to answer so i couldn't spend all $50 . There should be more variety of instant coffee bags and brown sugar bags as well. I had used lower accommodation type before this hotel, but not sure this 4,5star hotel is better than that accommodation . I am afraid i cannot recommend this hotel to my friends later or visit again myself unless improving in the future.

The shower was slow, the tall receptionist was untrained and does not say even hello, room interior was not that appealing, facilities like pool were ok, meals are reasonable ok for the price. .

I had high hopes when i booked the room, but i never expected this treatment. The rooms were like servant quarters and maintained in a very poorly and it was unbelievable that a hotel chain like copthorne has rooms like this....the rooms were smelly, beds worn out, had a renovated bathroom but the shower head was 90% blocked and had water coming like a "baby urine".....in short it was a total disappointment to me and family.....i will never book hotel via secret deal.....

Receptionist did not tell us nothing eg. We had to walk a mile to your room, but if you take your car around the building it is only 10-20 metres, if you want a spa or sauna, dont get changed, get the key first, they dont tell you. No bar specials or happy hour so we went into town and spent our money there , there was not one salad dish on the menu, all in all : crap :.

Kingsgate was quite dated and there was a long trek to our rooms at the back of the hotel. The room was clean and warm and the bed was extremely comfortable. One could not ask for more. We really appreciated having a green sticker to place on our door in the mornings. This said in order to save the planet please don't clean the room today. Reception and welcome when we arrived was excellent. We would stay there again. .

Unfortunately i wish we could say we had a nice time but our room was over in the far side,( the old section) beds were too short and uncomfortable, people in the next room partied until 3am ( not that was kingsgate's fault) but the walls were paper thin and we ended up with no sleep, bathroom was dirty and we will not be back!!!!.
