Hilltop Ruapehu
  • A very nice little place! me and my husband stayed in the cottage for 2 nights, to ride the timber trail. It's only about 25km from the ongarue carpark. (we get a shuttle to pureroa from there, and rode back to the carpark). For the cottage, i love the location, the outlook, the peaceful environment, the animals just next to the fence, the heater, the magazines, the deck with a full rural view, private and peaceful - no one can see you except the cows, and the birds (plus a few spiders). And only less than 2km from the town - fish n chips shop and newworld. Not to mention, the hosts are fantastic people ! just love this place ! . 5

  • Awesome place to stay! so close to the centre of town yet far enough away to be able to enjoy beautiful rural views and peace and tranquility. The hilltop cottage had everything we needed and more including wonderful artwork. It is located fairly close to the end of the timber trail and so we cycled to the end of trail from the cottage and did it in reverse (got a shuttle back from the beginning of the trail at pureora)! the owner was great to deal with as were jenny and les who manage the cottage and who live just down the hill! loved the horse, blade, as well - a real character! would definitely go back. 5

  • Our party of 6 adults had a fun time at lodge with lots of very interesting memorabillia and rare art pieces out on display. But.we found property quite run down and front entrance and carpet in entrance very grubby.stove not working but jenny did bring us a plug in hot plate and organized a electrician next day.kitchen tap leaking so bench was always wet. Barbecue was very dirty as well as lots of kitchen utensils not very clean. Beds very comfortable with lovely clean linen and towels. In general it needs a good spruceup to make it more enjoyable. 1
