Hilltop Ruapehu
  • We had a peaceful relaxing memorable stay. Les and jenny were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The drive to the cottage needs attention to make car friendly. Initial disappointment at the outside appearance and the need of some tlc ( unit not as clean as we would have appreciated it to be. Outside veranda full of dust and cobwebs - also some on ceiling of the inside of the cottage - edge of carpeting in the bedroom very dusty). However the views, tranquility and peacefulness more than made up for whatever , in our opinion, we thought needed attention. 5

  • Great place to stay in! the driveway is very tricky (especially in winters). Very helpful and friendly caretakers, jenny and les. However, would suggest the owners to do some work on the driveway to be a little driver friendly. Would love to come back. Once again, many thanks jenny & les for your warm and friendly help :). 5

  • We loved staying at the cottage. Jenny and les were super lovely and accommodating. The cottage was perfect for us, including our big german shepherd pup who loved roaming around the area. We will definitely be keen to stay again and take in more of what taumarunui and its surroundings have to offer. Thanks to jenny and les again who are just so friendly and added to the great experience we had :). 5

  • Not much to look at from the outside, but cosy indoors. Lovely and quiet. The driveway is tricky, particularly in a low vehicle, but you get used to it. Good value for money. Would definitely stay again. 5

  • Very homely environment, we met the owner and he was very lovely and helpful with the tricky driveway up to the house and giving us ideas for ur trip plan. We would go again next time in summer!. 5

  • A lovely place, nice and warm with a log fire and a heat pump. Beds were comfortable. Great deck which caught the sun. Caretakers were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend and absolutely will go back. 5

  • Really enjoyed our weekend stay at this little piece of paradise. Close enough to town to be within walking distance yet far enough away to be so peaceful and quiet. I had the best 2 nights sleep i have had in a long time at the lodge. Really enjoyed the space and relaxation. Plenty of room for the kids (although we didn't bring them this time but will next time). As previously mentioned, it is a little deceiving from the outside but once inside, it feels like a home away from home. Thanks jen and les, we will be back. 5

  • We enjoyed our 3 night stay in the lodge - were to have stayed in the cottage, but as the lodge was empty we were upgraded so had plenty of room. Very well equipped - better than a motel - and lots of extras. Rather crowded furniture wise and the mats on the carpets could be a trap for the unwary. All very clean inside but exterior a bit rough and looked drab on a cloudy day. The drive up to the lodge difficult to negotiate. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful caretakers. 5

  • After a very stressful few months, andy & myself, bev, were more than ready for a wee get away. Wow wow wow what a wonderful place to stay. We met les at his house & he gave us the key to a little slice of heaven. We stayed at the cottage. From the outside, i must say, i was thinking "what have i picked here?" however, looks are so very very deceiving. Never more so than on this occasion. We opened the door & stepped into an adult "narnia". Loved it. So relaxing, peaceful & yet not far away was all you needed in the way of shops etc. We did some exploring, our favourite being the lavender garden, the pub along the old highway & the views along our adventures. The best thing was no hustle, bustle, ,time keeping, ,what to wear concern's in fact the first day we just chilled & didn't even get dressed. My mobile was quiet.....quite honestly, we don't want to share this treasure but it's too special not to share with other like minded people. Chill, feet up, gently unwind. Glorious xx. 5
