Located within the central business district, and near to Parliament and the Lambton Quay shopping area of Wellington, the Wellesley Boutique Hotel features old-world charm in a convenient location. Guest rooms are spacious, inviting and individually decorated to match the style of the period.
The Wellesley Boutique Hotel building when constructed in 1925 – 26, was the pre-eminent building in the Georgian style in Wellington, a major work of the architect, William Gray Young. It was awarded an Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1932. It has remained little changed to the present day, with all major internal spaces in near original condition and displaying the highest level of craftsmanship in fittings and finishes.

The charm and elegance of the Wellesley’s splendid interior with its fine art and furniture collection gracing five stories, is a unique setting for elegant dining, luxury accommodation, private functions and conferences.

The Wellesley Boutique Hotel is a magnificent Grade One heritage building. Designed by William Gray Young in 1927, this masterpiece was awarded a gold medal for architecture.

It is regarded as Wellington’s finest example of neo-Georgian architecture. The finest in boutique class and style.

Comments about this property

  • Thanks to the team for a great overnight stay. The front desk staff and the service at breakfast the next morning could not be faulted. An important part of the overall team and one that did the Wellesley proud. The laundered shirt was such a lovely touch, thank you. We wanted something special and that is what we had at the Wellesley. Thank you again to front of house and the team behind the scenes. PS the bathroom was beautiful.

  • Good service at front desk and at breakfast and good quality food. Really nice to have linen table cloths and napkins. Our room was pleasant, comfortable bed, but room was dark - need additional 'mood' lightning to deal with that. Excellent location and quiet at night, but noisy in the morning as we faced the ventilation for the building opposite. It may be time for secondary double glazing guys! The lack of private parking could make the Holiday Inn more attractive, but this hotel can't be beaten for the individual character of the building and it's certainly got charm. A pleasant stay and we would consider staying again.

  • We picked the Wellesley as it seemed to be something different from the usual hotel and it really was. It has maintained it historical roots with period furniture, stylish rooms and excellent service. Our room was a bit noisy in the morning but overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
