Waitomo Caves Hotel provides a taste of the early 19th Century grand tour hotel experience in our own time.

Majestically positioned on a promontory above the Waitomo village and the world famous Waitomo caves the hotel offers sweeping views across the lush farmland, the hills and bush of South Waitako.

Waitomo Caves Hotel is not for those of you seeking the modern sterile chic rather this is a sedate haven of faded décor, doubtful 60's renovations, sparkling crystal chandeliers, spacious clean rooms, deliciously comfortable beds and deep armchairs. Come and rest and relax, read, sip wine, and just simply hang out with us.

Planned renovations may alter this glimpse of the past era irrevocably so be sure to visit us now to experience the difference and the unique ambience before it is too late.

The Hotel offers a large and very pleasant formal dining-room overlooking the terrace and the Rose gardens and a superb a la Carte menu for lunches and dinners – be sure to book whether or not you are staying at the hotel.

The management and staff are largely locally employed, friendly and helpful and will try to cater for your needs especially if you provide some notice of your needs – remember we are out in the countryside here.

Relax and chat to friends or other guests in the cozy bar or on the adjacent terrace.

An absolutely ideal and affordable Hotel weekend away – just 1 hour from Hamilton and 2 or so hours from Auckland – just off State Highway one with pleasant towns like Otorohonga and TeKuiti close by.

  • The Waitomo Caves Hotel was a comfortable night's accommodation with friendly staff. The Hotel is showing its age and needs some $'s spent to bring it back to the grandueur that it once would have had. Still, for the price and being close in to the caves, it exceeded my expectations. 4

  • Jaz was awesome, even called us to see if we wanted to book for dinner on the day of our arrival. It was so peaceful & beautiful from our Balcony Room. Has the oldschool feel to it which we loved. No ghostly visitors, nevertheless, thoroughly enjoyed our stay! 5

  • This is a sensational experience to see this great Hotel still in its original form. We had the Balcony room overlooking town and the extra money was very well spent. Would definitely stay here again when travelling through 5

  • I would highly recommend this hotel! It is a beautiful historic building. Our room was very nicely done, and comfortable. The view from the hotel grounds is beautiful, as well as the grounds themselves. a short walk to Waitomo Village for coffee, or gift shops. We did not take advatage of the dinner, but the dining room looked very elegant. We did have the continental breakfast and it was adequate. We would stay here again. 5

  • After a very long drive we were pleased to arrive and the rooms we had booked were comfortable but dated (which we'd expected from the previous guest comments). The dinner was excellent - one of the best meals we'd had anywhere on our travels. Small things could help improve the experience for guests - more rubbish bins in rooms, a wider variety of music playing in dining room but overall a good stay. 4
