Gourmet stay is a cool little boutique hotel, specially designed to provide excellent accommodation for the discerning budget conscious traveller. Gourmet stay is a comfortable, modern design with soft tones and is warm and inviting and friendly.
At Gourmet stay we unashamedly promote Wellington as the culinary capital of New Zealand and support our thriving local artisan producers and suppliers.
We have our own coffee bar and deli on the ground floor where you can buy breakfast. Lunch items are available to enjoy in house or to take with you as you explore the city.
Our desire is to offer food that is locally sourced, nutritious and delicious. We are also able to recommend our favourite bars and restaurants.
You will love the convenience of staying in our vibrant location in the heart of all the action. We are located in Frederick Street, a quiet side street in the centre of Wellington city. There is no need for a car here! It is a 5 minute walk to the entertainment and theatre district of Courtenay place. We do have several car parks available for a small fee if you require parking.
Courtenay Place is also home to a diverse range of excellent restaurants and bars. The lovely waterfront with its many promenades is only 5 minutes away. We are approximately 15 minutes by car to the airport and about 2 km's north of Gourmet Stay is the Railway Station.

The food on offer in the cafe was great, and the room (3 bed share) was comfortable and tidy (had it all to myself though, lucky me). The staff were very friendly and accommodating, so all-in-all a great stay!.

This has to be one of the best value accomodation options in inner city Wellington. Short walk to Courtenay Place, priced right, really clean and great service. I'll be staying again.

I recently stayed here and was pleasantly surprised.I have stayed in all sorts of hotels all over the world but have never experienced another place like this.Friendly feel I believe is what sets the Gourmet Stay apart from the usual formality of hotels.One felt more like a guest in someones home instead of just another room number,without any lack of privacy etc.

A fantastic option for accommodation in the inner city - 5 min walk to Cuba St and 10 mins to the waterfront. Rooms very clean and tidy - as was the bathroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Cafe downstairs is good - although being able sell to alcohol doesn't instantly turn the same space into a bar. Will be back again

Thanks for the feedback Jason we do appreciate it. I agree with your cafe/ bar comments it has been a new concept we were trailing, but we are working on new ways to create a bar space . We will try some theories in the new year ... your ideas welcome

Good bargain for what you get, clean and tidy room with free wifi and TV. Cafe on site. Bathroom separate but very close by. Would come back again if only for a short stay.

Very well presented hotel, however agree with Sarah - to pay top rates and have no refreshments provided in room (and then charged for when requsted) and no hairdryer, is not expected in this price range. Also the doors slam shut everytime people enter or leave, and the wooden floors are very noisy, especially when people come home at all times during the night. Out of the three hotels utilised in Wellington for the RWC, this was the least impressive. However, the staff very nice and accomodating.

When Heather checked in, we brought a fresh cup of tea and a brownie along with a cold beer to the room all at no cost. We also supplied a hair dryer to the room immediately when requested. Our room rates are very competitive especially over the World Cup period and we have acoustic rubber floor linings to the hallways to soften any noise. Heather stayed over our biggest weekend of the Rugby World Cup quarter finals with all of our rooms full for three days. We value the feedback and we will ensure the issues raised are dealt with for future guests. We have offered Heather another stay at any time at half price, for any room.
