The Wellesley is a magnificently restored grade one heritage building, designed by William Gray Young in 1927. This masterpiece was awarded a gold medal for architecture and is regarded as Wellington's finest example of neo-Georgian architecture.
In 2000 the hotel was tastefully restored, retaining its charm and elegance. Superbly appointed luxury suites have been meticulously themed in the English Georgian period style with use of the finest natural materials.
Each room is of particularly generous proportions reflecting the grandeur of the hotel building.

This is my second stay in this hotel and i had christmas dinner. I was disappointed that the hot roll we got was hard and not hot or didn't feel fresh. I had had better hot bread fresher rolls in 3 star hotels. Also the potatoes were bland. The rest of the christmas dinner including the meat was nice.it might be because this was a buffet meal and not the one im used to in their set menu of which the chef then was top notch. The pluses in this hotel are the free internet, friendly staff and the character of the building.i would like to thank the elderly lady that gave me a nice pat on the back in the buffet.i had just lost my dad this year and mum two years ago but she needed of had worried as im fine on my own. I would of like one area of the hotel to have a nice library reading area to relax in. I was in a smaller room this time but not small in ceilings with beautiful furniture.thanks for the nice chocs and christmas card in the room . Xmas decorations in window missing.thx 4 grt sty.

Wonderful hotel. I really enjoyed the elegant room decor and the modern bathroom. The staff were brilliant - attentive and welcoming, and provided nice "proper hotel" touches (like accompanying you to your room upon check in). The Wellesley is now my preferred hotel in Wellington and I look forward to going back.

Good service at front desk and at breakfast and good quality food. Really nice to have linen table cloths and napkins. Our room was pleasant, comfortable bed, but room was dark - need additional 'mood' lightning to deal with that. Excellent location and quiet at night, but noisy in the morning as we faced the ventilation for the building opposite. It may be time for secondary double glazing guys! The lack of private parking could make the Holiday Inn more attractive, but this hotel can't be beaten for the individual character of the building and it's certainly got charm. A pleasant stay and we would consider staying again.

We picked the Wellesley as it seemed to be something different from the usual hotel and it really was. It has maintained it historical roots with period furniture, stylish rooms and excellent service. Our room was a bit noisy in the morning but overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Very professional and friendly staff from checking in to checking out. Excellent room very quiet and restful. Would recommend the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Will stay there again.

A hiccup at the start, but thanks to the manager our stay was a great one. The comfort of the bed was the best Ive ever come across.

We just loved the few days we had here. The room was of a really good quality, staff were welcoming and helpful. Had a great meal in the restaurant our first evening. Good selction of malt whiskies. Overall good value and we will happily stay again.
