8480 State Highway 35 Whanarua Bay Waihau Bay

Wifi Internet Access Pet Friendly Non Smoking Carpark access

ARUHE is a Bed & Breakfast/Holiday Home in picturesque Whanarua Bay, on State Highway 35 and just over an hour's drive from Opotiki. State Highway 35 is renowned for its beautiful views of the ocean and uninhabited beaches. It's a road few know about and well worth the detour from the beaten track.

This sustainably built open-plan studio, with modern amenities, is surrounded by peace and natural beauty. ARUHE faces the Pacific Ocean and the view from the deck is framed by magnificent native trees.

A selection of breakfast ingredients are supplied for you to prepare at your own leisure. The kitchen cupboards hold most basic ingredients and if you plan to self-cater you will need to provide your own fresh ingredients. Opotiki and Gisborne are our nearest supermarkets. The kitchen has a large fridge, a freezer compartment, a two burner hob, a convection microwave and a Nespresso coffee maker for those who need their morning "fix". A comfortable king-sized bed sleeps two and a sofa bed can accommodate another one or two people. ARUHE is really only suitable for four as an overnight arrangement. Whilst the cottage is spacious for two, it is not quite so roomy for four.

Wifi is available but your mobile phone won't work here. There is no TV reception so it's a perfect opportunity to kick back, read that book you've been saving, beachcomb or relax in sun or shade.

The entire property is called Motuaruhe and it sits at the very edge of the Raukumara National Park and is far enough away from SH35 for guests to be untroubled by road noise and the occasional motorbike. Birdsong will waken you and continue to entrance you throughout the day.

We had a fabulous time at Aruhe. It really is paradise! Kim & KusKus were so welcoming and looked after us 100%. The cottage is luxurious, clean and very comfortable and the food supplied by Kim was fantastic - especially the fresh figs off the trees in the garden. It was a great place for our dog Bella who is traveling with us and we can recommend it as a base to visit the East Cape to be the first to see the sunrise!

Lovely peaceful bush setting, with abundant bird life. Quality fixtures and fittings and well stocked with kitchen supplies.

We spent a few days at Aruhe after our wedding in January 2018. We love the surrounding area, Whanarua & Maraehako bays, diving, snorkelling, kayaking, bush walks etc, but wanted to stay in a private and peaceful place so we could rest and unwind. Aruhe was the perfect place as it is set back into the native bush. The deck has views through the puriri trees out to sea and you can see and hear kereru, tui and korimako. The kitchen was very well equipped with complimentary fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, wine and snacks. Comfortable outdoor furniture and couches, a large comfortable bed and nice linen. Kim, the host, was very generous and friendly while also allowing you privacy. We absolutely recommend this place.

A wonderful quiet place far away from busy city life. The bungalow was right in the bush, offered a great view from the balcony, and the attention to detail blew my mind. Kim, the owner, really thought of everything you could possibly need. Highly recommended!

We would return to Aruhe in a heartbeat. Bird song and cicadas, distant view of the bay, and excellent self catering accommodation. It exceeded our expectations.
