Welcome to The Old Countryhouse - a multi award winning backpackers hostel in Christchurch created by travellers for travellers. It is a great place to base yourself for your stay in Christchurch. We are a small backpackers hostel in Christchurch with plenty of space and a family atmosphere. Walk through the garden gate and you will be greeted by tranquil gardens and winding paths leading to our beautiful colonial villas. Each house has been lovingly restored and refurbished to provide you with comfortable budget accommodation.
Pop across the road to buy takeaways or food to cook a meal in our large well equipped kitchens. Or if you want to eat out, we are only 1500m from Cathedral Square in the heart of Christchurch's shopping and restaurant district. Walk along flat tree-lined suburban streets past the picturesque Latimer Square or catch a public bus from outside our door. If you have a car, there is plenty of room to park outside the hostel for free. We also provide secure onsite cycle parking.
Reception hours are between 9am and 8pm.
We are pleased that we can accommodate guests arriving outside these reception hours. However, to ensure that all our guests are getting a good nights sleep we will not accept bookings for dorm rooms outside our reception hours. If you are arriving after 8pm and want to stay in a dorm we suggest you book a private room for your first night and then move to a dorm room the next morning. Please advise your arrival time with your booking information.
Group Bookings for more than 6 guests will not be allowed. Please contact us directly to enquire about a group booking. Please note, if you choose to book a group through this website, we are unable to offer you a refund for your booking.
In consideration to other dorm guests, children will not be accommodated in dorm rooms. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, and must stay in the same room with the children.
