Hillside B&B is a family-run bed and breakfast on a quiet, rural smallholding in Woodhill, overlooking the Kaipara River valley, northwest of central Auckland. Whether you are looking for a rest stop while touring the region, a quiet retreat for a weekend away or a ‘basecamp’ for a longer holiday, Hillside B&B is your home away from home.

Hillside B&B is close to many local and regional attractions including the wineries of Kumeu and Waimauku, Woodhill Sands Equestrian Centre, Tree Adventures, West Coast surfing, the Twin Coast Discovery Highway, Woodhill Mountain Bike Park, Historic Helensville, the Kaipara Harbour and Parakai thermal pools. Auckland Airport is 42 km away.

The self-contained apartment is comprised of a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed with private en suite and small north facing deck. This is complimented by a sunny and comfortable lounge diner with hillside views. The large couch, digital Freeview television, DVD player and wood burner make this a cosy, comfortable space to rest and relax. Lastly, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to enjoy hot and cold drinks, plate up a tasty takeaway or create your own culinary masterpiece with the freshest of local farm produce. Free WiFi access is available and a self-serve in-room breakfast is included in the room rate.

Hillside B&B also provides free private parking, access to the farm and animals and offers guests a laundry service (extra charge).

Booking.com lists Hillside B&B as one of the best-rated and best value locations in Woodhill when compared to other operators in the area.

Once part of a larger neighbouring farm on the east bank of the Kaipara river, the land was subdivided and the main house built in the mid-1990s. A requirement of the subdivision was the creation of the wetland area to the north of the drive. This provides a habitat for much native flora and fauna. The original owner and a local architect designed the main house and retained a local builder to build the house and landscape the garden area.

Wendy, Buzz and family moved from England in 2005 & immediately fell in love with the South Kaipara area. After living nearby for seven years, Wendy and Buzz bought the property in 2012 with a view to making it their long-term family home. As the latest stewards of a wonderful smallholding with beautiful views, they felt called to share this blessing and their love of the area with others. After research and preparations during the spring, Hillside Bed & Breakfast opened for business in the early summer of 2012. Committed to the local community, Wendy and Buzz ensure that Hillside uses local produce and services wherever possible in order to contribute to the local rural economy.

Hillside B&B
  • A comfortable apartment with really good kitchen facilities and a very comfortable bed and bedroom and all immaculately turned out. Nice hosts and very good breakfast ingredients. Attached to the owner's and with an adjoining door (locked) so didn't feel entirely private but a small price to pay for a quiet and restful night. Very good value. 4
