The Grand Hotel
  • Hotel was a grand lady in her day, but tired looking now and reasonably priced, so not complaining. We were treated like family by neville, he tries to please in a natural and kind way. We enjoyed the concert in the hotel with three musicians who apparently come a number of times, the concert and three course mid winter meal was a bargain and nicely cooked meal, lots of veges and beautifully hot and fresh. Would come again just for the concert and meal and to see neville of course. Stay would be improved with towel rails or hooks, something to dry out the towels. Nice and quiet stay, able to sleep with no outside noises as often happens at hotels. Better grade bread for breakfast would be nice but for the price we paid for each night we cannot complain. . 5

  • We enjoyed our one night stay. Room was comfortable and the Hotel itself portrays its original charm. Staff were attentive and the Manager spent quite a bit of time chatting to us. I was even able to have a play on the old Grand Piano. Our meal (Omlette) was more than adequate. 5

  • It is advertised as an old center-city hotel, and that is what it is. No flashy chrome and glass. The room was basic, and comfortable. Dining facilities lack class. 5

  • This is an old hotel, and is furnished with old chairs, couches etc, as expected. The room was comfortable, so no complaints. However, we found the staff service was poor, even in one case rude, and the facilities/service cheap and disorganised. Would probably not stay in this hotel again. 1

  • It is disappointing to have such feed back and somewhat surprising. Mr & Mrs Lane have a child with a severe peanut allergy and our chef organised to prepare this meal himself ensuring that there was no risk whatsoever even offering to purchase in specific foods if require. The suite they stayed in is always popular and we get extremely good feedback. The hotel is full of character and people walk in off the street just to look at the interior and its lovely plaster ceilings. The Grand piano adds to the ambience The leather chesterfield couches are approx 12 months old and these are the only couches we have in the hotel. We are disappointed the Lanes did not enjoy their stay as the comments we receive on checkout are as a rule very complimentary. I suppose we will never please everyone all the time which is a shame.
