  • I booked the ensuite room which doesn't include a breakfast in the price but gave in on the second day when I saw the yummy breakfasts others were eating. Very little noise from outside the house but I was distrurbed by the front door clsoing. 5

  • I think we're the only accommodation in Nelson that offers both fully cooked breakfasts and room service in air conditioned, double glazed bedrooms. Wooden houses are great in an earthquake but it does mean that sometimes the door frames lozenge a bit. We are aware that although the double glazing means little external noise is heard inside the house, this means that internal noise can become more prominent. We're planning on buying an electro-magnetic door lock so the noise of the front door closing won't be so noticeable in future. Sorry!

  • The visitor centre didn't tell me this wasn't a motel so i was a bit surprised to find an old house. No fridge in room. 5

  • It's true that our home was built when Queen Victoria was still on her throne - some people like our large rooms with a high stud that were typical of that different age. We have tried to keep the heritage character of our home while double glazing all the bedroom windows and adding unobtrusive air conditioning and digital entertainment. If you don't choose a "room only" tariff, then we cook for you: some folks like that when they're on holiday. There is a guest fridge in the breakfast room and we have three big chest freezers if you need your catch stored. One big advantage of staying in a homestay is the local fund of knowledge that's available to help you make the most of your stay in Nelson - we also think we spot thieves and burglars more quickly than a motel might.

  • Shower was larger than most and sprinkle adequate. Good beds!. 5

  • We knew that comfortable beds were important for a good night's rest but we obviously also need to think about fitting some sort of adjustment to the showers since some seem to like a fine, gentle mist and some a monsoon-type deluge. We'll do some research...Thanks for staying and we hope to host you again.

  • Blisteringly fast Internet and the best cooked breakfast I've eaten down under. Great value for money - the only real niggle I have is that the shower was a bit high pressure - more like a fire hydrant in the morning than a gentle awakening sprinkle1 5
Michael Plummer - Dec 22, 2016 (Stayed Dec 2016) Travelbug verified review
  • The city centre of Nelson is only a metre or so above median high tide so water pressures are very high, Michael. The majority of our guest bedrooms are fitted with locally made Topliss shower regulators that can have water pressure restrictors fitted easily. To be honest, yours is the first complaint of this nature but we will try and come up with a solution. We hope to host you again, Michael!
