New Zealand destinations
ZEALANDIA is the world’s first fully-fenced urban eco-sanctuary, with an extraordinary 500-year vision to restore a Wellington valley’s forest and freshwater ecosystems as closely as possible to their pre-human state.
DISCOVER A REMARKABLE STORY
Step back in time with our interactive exhibition, learning about New Zealand’s unique ecological history and the conservation efforts to preserve it.
EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF
The 225 hectare eco-sanctuary is a ground breaking conservation project that has reintroduced nearly 20 species of native wildlife back into the area, 6 of which were previously absent from mainland New Zealand for over 100 years. Explore the sanctuary valley along the walking tracks - a safe haven for some of New Zealand's rarest native animals found nowhere else in the world.
Make the most of your visit and book in for a guided tour! Guided Tours are available for both day and night time for a range of different experiences.
ZEALANDIA By Day Tours run daily at 10am, 11am, and 1pm and take you through the sanctuary led by one of our expert local guides who will help you spot, identify, and understand the unique species found throughout the forest.
For a chance to see the wildlife that only comes out after dark (including the Little Spotted Kiwi, glowworms, long finned-eels, and Maud Island frogs!), book in for the ZEALANDIA By Night Tour. Night Tours run year-round and the start times vary with the sunset time.
Bookings are also available for groups - please enquire.
After your daytime walk, grab a bite at Rata Cafe, ZEALANDIA's new terrace cafe. The view across the lake must make this one of the best spots in Wellington to enjoy a leisurely lunch. We offer quality local produce, a selection of beer and wines and picnic items.
