  • Got a room facing the 'forest' on second floor which smelt bad - mold or old smoking smell? We were told the smell was due to it being near the 'forest'. Asked for air freshner to be sprayed & it was but it only masked it for a while. Walls were paper thin, could hear neighbors talking & when going to bathroom. Would rate this place half a notch above a backpackers accomodation. 2

  • Hi Gary Thank you for your feedback. Due to your late decision to book accommodation at the busiest period of the season, the room you were given was the only one we had left, hence the reason you were facing the rain forest. We like to reward those who book early with the rooms facing the sun. The smell is in fact the smell of the forest. I don't know how often you have stayed with a beautiful temperate rain forest at you door, but I am disappointed that you are suggesting the smell was due to something else,and hinting I was lying to you about the smell. As is clearly stated o the large sign out the front of our property, we offer budget accommodation. It does seem by your comment regarding backpackers, that you have a Champagne taste on a Beer budget. Perhaps you should be more organised with deeper pockets, so you can have the accommodation you desire, next time. Regards Shane Williams

  • The inn was OK although rather noisy, and I found the room rather inconvenient (Light switch at the door; had to get out of bed to turn the switch off). But given the pressure on accommodation I was lucky to have it. Staff were quite helpful in booking a taxi to the glacier. 3

  • Basic but clean, breakfast included which was nice. Staff were very friendly, as was the dog! Only downside was being kept awake by the people above us, we could hear every footstep. 5

  • Really great hostel. Bedrooms were nice but honestly the worst matresses we've ever slept on. We woke up each morning hardly able to move!! Kitchen great, bathrooms very clean and great location. Would stay again if they upgraded the matress! 4

  • Thanks for your feed back Carrie. Glad you enjoyed Fox Glacier, our place and your stay. Very sorry you had this experience with the mattressses. It is the first time I have had someone say this about those beds. As the mattresses are relativly new, we normally get a postive responce. But I will try and spend a night myself on those beds and will have a better understanding of how they feel. It would be great to have you back some time. All the best for 2012. Take care.
