  • Great location and magical views. The restaurant was closed during our 3 day stay due to maintenance. The main problem arose the first morning when we could not get any hot water. A cold shower on the day when all that snow fell in queenstown was not ideal. We informed the front desk staff of our water problem which they said would get sorted during the day. We returned to the hotel at the end of a bitterly cold day to find we still had no hot water in our room. After a call to reception, the staff said they could not fix the water and request we pack our things so we could shift to another room. The new room had hot water but it was much smaller than our previous one and literally freezing. The wall heater could not warm it up. Front desk staff provided a heater to warm the room when we requested it a couple of hours later. I have never felt compelled to leave a negative comment on any place we have stayed before. 1

  • Great location, room & facilities are a little tired. Friendly & helpful staff. Plenty of choice for breakfast. A visit or two to the fire side lounge for a bbq chicken pizza and is an absolute "must do" !!. 5

  • Great location and view. Room very dated and not cleaned to a high standard. The frontdesk service was okay - friendly enough but not particularly warm or sincere. Although the hotel was very dated, more polished service (as is generally available in higher rated hotels) would have made the dated surroundings less of an issue, without presumably costing the hotel to much in staff training. Overall ok. 5

  • Room 412 when we arrived was perfect before our 6 day walk (Grand Traverse). When we arrived back we received our luggage bags etc. Antony and the other guy were very helpful and Chelsey on 6th Floor where we had breakfast each morning during our stay. The above three staff members need to be commended and I must apologise when I thought that I had lost my wallet. We have recommended to our friends to stay at Rydges for the magic views, great food etc. 5

  • Mixed comments. The trainee porter who greeted us on arrival and took our bags to our room was a delight. Room, and general hotel felt tired, but tidy and clean. Apart from this first porter, very hesitant staff to engage in conversation or make eye contact and smile. Loved the incredible view. Hated the smokers who sat outside at the next door room and smoked which meant their smoke wafted into our room, too hot to close any doors or windows so had to wait hours til the room lost it's smokey smell. Ugh! breakfast was disappointing. Half of the fruit on offer had empty bowls, tables were not set or wiped clean and had to ask for cutlery and sugar (at 9.30!). Would i stay again? probably not, given the many other options in queenstown. . 1

  • Excellent value; $159 for 2 adults and 2 kids including a bar meal. Great location and views. Swimming pool a bit small and grotty and no wi-fi in room were the only real down sides. 5
