  • Wairua Lodge was a highlight of our trip to New Zealand. The property is amazing, offering onsite hiking trails, swimming holes (one with a fun rope swing), a beautiful private bath that overlooks the forest, and a star-gazing jacuzzi spa. The room was spacious, clean, and came equipped with a mini-fridge, which was helpful. In addition, a wonderful breakfast is provided consisting of incredible freshly baked bread, an assortment of spreads, varieties of cheese, and fruit along with tea and coffee. There is a communal kitchen that all guests are allowed to use. The owners are extremely hospitable and helpful and made our stay very comfortable. They even provided us with beach towels and shovels to use for Hot Water Beach. I would love to return to Wairua Lodge and can't recommend it highly enough--don't miss this gem! 5

  • Fabulous accomodation. Beautiful, idyllic place, loved the walks around the property, especially the ravine walk. Absolute must is the candlelit rainforest bathtub. We also enjoyed the starry skied jacuzzi. Debbie and Ernst were wonderfully friendly hosts. Excellent breakfast with home made bread, meats, fruits, muesli/cereals...just perfect, delivered the night before. Lots of privacy but also very helpful friendly. Convienient to Ha hei and cathedral cove. 5

  • We had an amazing stay at Wairua Lodge. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous with lovely hidden pockets throughout - swimming holes, a fire pit, bathhouse, spa, trails. We enjoyed stargazing and roasting marshmallows by the fire pit in the evening. The rooms were well equipped with a mini fridge, toaster, kettle and plates/cutlery and there was a large kitchen and grill to cook meals. There's really no reason to leave, but when we did the central location meant that everything was very close and easy to access. We really enjoyed the trails, walking through the river and repelling down the beautiful waterfall. The lodge provides gum boots and river shoes for hiking as well as the required spade and pale if you're heading to Hot Water Beach. Each room had a little outdoor area to enjoy the scenery and the continental breakfast. The homemade bread was wonderful and having everything the night before meant it could be enjoyed at our leisure. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay, but most of all Debbie and Ernst were exceptional hosts. They were available for questions and recommendations and added so many personal touches - building a fire, lighting candles, even showing us the eels that live in the river, owls that frequent a nearby tree and directing us to the glowworms on site. A stay at the Wairua Lodge could truly be as relaxing or as adventurous as you choose. We can't wait to return! 5
