SOUTHERN SECRET
The Southern Secret is an excellent vessel for your Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise. She boasts a large living area for comfortable living and dining with big windows for viewing the fiord. The top deck, bow and stern are accessible; the stern has step access right to the water line. On-board we have 5 spacious Double or Twin Cabins accommodating 10 - 12 guests. Each cabin is equipped with private toilet and shower en-suite; features of our roomy cabins include small windows that open to the outside, reading lights, linens and towels, soap and the convenience of a private shower and toilet en-suite.
DEPARTURE DETAILS, CHECK IN: Meet Fiordland Cruises Staff by 9.30am on day one at Pearl Harbour Visitor Centre in Manapouri. Your cruise returns to Manapouri at 12 noon on day two.
YOUR DOUBTFUL SOUND JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY
Our small and personalised cruise gets you closer to wild and untouched Doubtful Sound. You will be accommodated on board the Southern Secret, a 20 metre launch overnight in a private ensuite cabin.
You meet us at Pearl Harbour Visitor Centre in Manapouri on the morning of your departure (by 9.30am) to travel to Lake Manapouri. Here you will board a scenic cruise across Lake Manapouri (45 min cruise) to West Arm. At West Arm you will see the above ground sections of the Manapouri Power Station, an underground hydroelectric power station which is capable of generating up to 850 MW using water from Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. It is the largest hydroelectric power station in New Zealand.
At West Arm you will meet your crew, who will take you by courtesy bus over the Wilmot Pass where you will capture breathtaking vistas of Doubtful Sound and the surrounding mountains.
You will arrive at the Southern Secret and Doubtful Sound around midday, welcome refreshments and luncheon will be served as we begin to explore the environs of Doubtful Sound such as Hall Arm, Crooked Arm, Bradshaw Sound and more, all the while keep watch for inhabitants such as bottlenosed dolphins, penguins sea birds and seals.
On-board the Southern Secret, your overnight adventure includes sightseeing and exploring the history and splendor, pause at features for photographs and to observe marine mammals, cast a line for fishing, check our crayfish traps and savor the spectacular scenery and wildlife. Activities on-board can include fishing, mammal watching and star gazing on clear evenings. Wildlife often sighted in Doubtful Sound may include bottlenose dolphins, penguins, seals and sea birds. MEALS
Luncheon, pre-dinner snacks, delicious evening meal and breakfast are served on-board, complimented, where possible with the catch of the day. Most diets are catered for.
Your cruise is fully catered excluding alcohol - BYO welcome to enjoy with your evening meal. Complimentary tea and coffee available throughout the cruise
PLEASE NOTE
Our cruises are smoke-free and not suitable for children 10 years and under. The access to the Southern Secret at Deep Cove is steep; please contact us with any concerns. It is ESSENTIAL we are advised of any dietary/medical conditions prior to departure as Doubtful Sound is a remote location.
