  • We stayed in the "cottage" four bedrooms, rented out separately behind the hotel with two shared toilets - and two showers. Handbasin with hot and cold water in bedroom. Tea, milo, coffee and milk sachets available in foyer of cottage any time .clean, warm and comfortable but not flash. We used the guest lounge in hotel to watch rugby and often sat in guest balcony upstairs and watched the ferry, fishing boats and activities in halfmoon bay. . 5

  • Clean , comfortable , cheap and convenient to all stewart island offers a good range of meals and staff are friendly and helpful. Over xmas could possibly employ more staff as they were very busy and often over worked. 5

  • The basic twin was very clean and comfortable, we would recommend to stay. The restaurant even cooked our fish we caught from our fishing trip. After check out we stayed on in the lounge areas and enjoyed our afternoon. 5

  • Really lovely people, great stay. It's not the ritz but more than comfortable. If you want a bit more space book a cottage room which is just delightful. 5

  • Pleasant enough room, basic twin - it was the cheapest option, clean, comfortable beds, a little noisy at night but it was a Saturday night, close to all amenities and ferry, lovely views from the guest lounge which we could use after checkout until departure 5

  • I called ahead to see what was available on Xmas day and was told that the restaurant was opening but not the bar. Upon arival on xmas eve we were told the restaurant was closed for Xmas evening, so a quick dash to the only store to buy some food. When we booked this unit which advertised a Kitchenette, I expected a hob and not just a Toaster and Microwave, not good for cooking up the fresh blue cod we planned on catching and eating whilst still fresh. Opening the shower curtain on arrival and finding someone elses dirty soap was not a good start. Also the housekeepers came to service our room at 8.30am and the towels were just left outside as our curtain was still drawn (I presume it was so early because it was Xmas day and they wanted to finish early). Only having one TV channel is not good if you want to catch up with the news during your stay. I would recommend Stewart Island to all and would recommend the hotel restaurant and bar to all but not the accommodation. I see now why there are hardly any photos on any website showing the hotel rooms. In future I will book a bach 1
